thanks for the comments guys. I knew I wanted that look of no basket/traditional head, then was inspired by this antique ring but worked with Leon to make create something that is more modern and unique. Leon is so amazing to work with. I love my ring and it was worth every minute of anxious waiting.

As for the photos... I know, I know!

It''s not an excuse but it has been so overcast here in NYC, and I haven''t had much luck with my indoor lighting making it sparkle. Anyone got any tips for how to best light this baby for photos indoors? TIA!

Beautiful! Simply beautiful!

Your ring is beautiful-I love your design. I also just went to Leon''s website and your beauty is there!!!

Congratulations you lucky girl!!!

Any thoughts for the wedding band????

Congratulations...it is absolutely beautiful!! I also purchased a cushion from Mark Turnowski and he has been amazing to work with. I was wondeirng if I could ask how much you paid for your Leon setting...I am thinking about having a similar one made...did you come up with the design or did you see it on another site? I saw a similar one on estate diamond jewelry.com and from Lang antiques. Congratulations again....it is stunning!!

The pics from Leon are here! He sent me 2. First one below.

Thanks again everyone for all your comments!

Star17 and VS - I''m probably not supposed to disclose publicly how much I paid for the setting, but I had gotten quotes from Leon for several different styles of rings and this ring is comparable in price to other 3-sided pave rings he makes. If you''d like more specific info let me know.

VS - I saw the ring on Estate Diamond Jewelry and that was my inspiration. I knew for a while that I didn''t want a traditional basket and I had been asking Leon about how to find a way to get rid of it in the design and trying to come up with something. When I saw that ring I knew that would be a great way to make the "no basket" work (rather than me having to reinvent the wheel), but it wasn''t exactly what I wanted either. So I sent Leon that picture along with a handsketch using the crossover as the main design feature but modifying elements to modernize it and make it my own. I initially had some more changes which Leon informed me were not physically possible to make, so I basically trusted him to make the call as to how best to accommodate my design requests in the final ring. I had also wanted to set my stone east-west but in discussion with Leon he suggested that my stone isn''t large enough/rectangular enough for any horizontal setting to really work well, so we stuck with the N-S orientation.

With the right stone, I think an east-west placement with this setting could be gorgeous.

Kasey3 - I''m not sure what I want to do about the w-band but I think I''ll definitely go back to Leon. Since the ring is so low and it''s 3-sided I''m not sure what will work best if I want to wear both together. I loved his micropave eternity band that I tried on when I was at his studio but I''m not sure about 3-sided pave rubbing up against each other. Leon will certainly advise against it.

Got any thoughts/suggestions for what direction I should consider?

I love the new pics!!!

As far as the wedding band I think you should get Leon to make a matching 3 sided band. There may be a gap, but I like that look. It wil look similar to Ashley Judds set.

Oh Wow!!! What detail!!! Your ring is just full of beautiful surprises! I adore it!

Congratulations! It''s a really stunning ring!

taking pictures is like an addiction...

I love this shot!!! Your ring is sooooo beautiful!!!! I have a couple of questions for you-is the three sided pave band comfortable? and how wide is your band? Thanks in advance.

Kasey

Hi Kasey

The three sided pave is really comfortable and I really love it. I don''t know if round stock would be more comfortable than square stock to wear though. the shank of my ring is tapered, the base is 1.7mm and it probably graduates to about 2mm at the top. I had really wanted the shank to be as thin as possible (when I first looked at rings with Leon I had wanted a 1.5mm band if I was going to do a solitaire) but I think to execute the "crossover" Leon needed a certain amount of width near the top of the ring.

Talk about practice making perfect! I love the new images, especially the second-to-last one that you just posted ... it looks like a rainbow in sepia tones, colorwise, and the crispness of the detail shows just how gorgeous your ring really is. Thank you for posting more shots!

P.S. - Nope, it''s not just you ... the ring set me off on actually *liking* photography, as opposed to seeing it as a useful way to capture a memory. Because, well, the ring is permanent ... I just find myself wanting to "play" with its different incarnations. Good thing we have this place to share our results .... :)
