I am. I''ve never been to Baba, but I''ve been to the other two and they are not the same.

I tried a new restaurant in Philly called Banana Leaf and it is MUCH better than Penang. I don''t know if they have a branch in NYC. Still, as I said earlier, nothing beats the real food back home.

I know. Thankfully, I found a package of bak kwa at my doorstep last week.

Your stones are beautiful! Your title caught my eye because I just received my B. Rose Amethyst last week. I love the color. It''s like a pinkish purple. Before I bought the stone I couldn''t really find any info here about them. But I''m glad I did.....I love it! Enjoy your stones!!!!!

You are putting together quite the collection, Harriet

I went over-budget with my Krementz project and will have to collect "virtually" for now.

Ooh, what Krementz project?
I also received a mother-of-pearl pendant as a gift today.

Since it''s already set, I can do more than just admire it.

Are those the bigger rhodolites for your earrings? Do you have a pic of them next to the studs?
Here you go.

Hi Harriet,
The rhodolites look fantastic with your studs. You can have them made with detachable gizmos. I just saw this pair of earrings from Diamonds by Lauren with the same detachable gizmos. They're gorgeous, only thing is they're a bit too dangly for my taste.

Here is the earshot which DBL posted and the second is of how it looks detachable.

BTW, there was a special offer at Bee Cheng Hiang last weekend. Sliced pork at S$18.90 for 600g. Yum...

Hi DiaDiva,
I believe this is this first time we're communicating.

Thanks for the compliment. I did buy the pears with the intention of making them dangling (but not too dangly) jackets.
You're torturing me! It's a good thing I still have 1.5 slices left. My friend went all the way to that famous one in Chinatown. Bless his heart!
Btw, do you know a good place for custom work in Spore?

Hi Harriet,
You''re right...it was my first response to your posts. Let me know how it goes with your earring project. I have a custom jeweller but he''s not retail and he does all my stuff. if you''re ever in Singapore maybe I can hook you up with him.

Oh...your friend went to Lim Chee Guan eh? Nice...but I noticed that I can''t handle more than 2 slices at one go and my craving comes on a semi-annual basis. Thank goodness for that since I''m trying to lose weight and have a couple more kg to go....What else do you crave for? Chai tow kway? Char kway teow???

Will do. As a matter of fact, I''ll be in Singapore in August.
I saw your wedding pictures. You have no weight to lose!
Oh my, you read my mind. Chai tow kway is my all-time favourite. Argh.

Cool. Let me know when you''re arrive in town - not sure how though since there are no PMs on this site anymore.

I definitely have weight to lose. The wedding pics are almost 5 years old!!! Do you like the black or white version? I like both, with lots of chilli, of course. Check out hungrygowhere.com - it has loads of food reviews...Singapore style...

I''ll be back for the last 2 weeks of August.

Black. You? Where''s your favourite place?

I'm having too much fun with them.

Sometimes I like the possibilites of things more than I would like the actual things once the decision is made. It's crazy, but for example if I have $1000 for bling ... I will draw out a decision with regard to that money as long as possible. Because it's just so much fun to look at all the things I could buy with the money and consider them. Once the money is spent... I have a pretty thing... but no more possibilites.

So if I set them they will be what they are... now they could be anything: a pendant, a ring....

They were affordable enough that I can just take them out and play and imagine what they'd look like as X or Y.

Plus I'm always afraid that if I pick something the reality won't be as nice as the possibility.

Crazy. I know, but I really have fun with it. I love possibilites.

Explains my setting commitment issues perfectly though, doesn't it.

Nothing wrong with having fun. What have you dreamt up?

Thanks! The reason I didn''t get them in the first place is that their sizes are a wee bit different. That shouldn''t matter once set, but I''m type-A like that.

Yes once you set them you definitely won''t notice a slight difference in size. If you are trying to be budget-oriented (and depending on the calibration of your stones), you can find out if they fit into a pre-made basket setting mountings ; most jewelers have catalogs where they can look up options for you. If you are not, even though I typically don''t favor them i think they would look fantastic with diamond halos!

I agree gypsy, sometimes it''s almost more fun to leave them as loose stones and "play" with them. There are some stones I bought for the purpose of making into rings, but I''m in no hurry to set them since it is fun to see them all in their little containers.

part gypsy,
Which stones do you have? I agree with both you and Gypsy -- it''s a lot of fun to play with them. DF thinks I''m crazy becuase I''ll get more use of them if they''re set. But I have neither money nor inspiration right now.
1 idea for the earrings, though. What do you think about the rhodolites dangling withing pear-shaped halos?

They are fun to play with... especially my three danburites because they are all different shapes and sizes. I LOVE my little 5 x 5 cut cornered square brilliant and want 5 more just like it. I want to set them into adwar mountings and use an existing chain I have plus some loose pearls to make a diamond and pearl by the yard like necklace.

My oval is so much fun to play with. I don''t know if I will ever set it. Nothing has struck me as just right yet. My rectangle I am looking for small sides for. I''m thinking colored baguettes and then set into a three stone ring with the danburite set east west.

But those are just my current thoughts. Might change in a day or a week. You never know.

The next colored stone I''m going to set is my garnet. I have found one setting I like... I"m just not sure if I like it for the price or for the look so I''m sitting on that. That''s about it.

The danburites are great fun though. I''m so glad I got three small ones instead of the one large I was eyeing.

Hey, I love the danburite and pearl idea.

Harriet, what I was thinking was a typical halo. But what you''re describing also sounds nice, and would give more movement. I feel like I''ve seen that style on here somewhere, maybe as part of a pink sapphire pendant?

Gypsy, my collection is very modest. large green blue oval aquamarine, 2 small round pink sapphires, oval rhodolite garnet, small round color change garnet, light blue sapphire pear, 2 4x6 imperial topaz ovals, round african demantoid garnet (now set into pendant), and miscellaneous other stuff. Just yesterday I ordered a few strands of real turqoise beads with the intention (of someday) making them into necklaces. My wish list flucuates, but I ordered the topaz ovals to be made into dangle earrings but they look too small, so would like at some point to acquire a larger pair of precious topaz (oval or pear) to have someone make a pair of earrings for me (not sure when that will be).

Could we please see the beauties, especially the colour-change garnet? I''d love one.

Hey, sorry for the delay answering your question about how I set my Danburite, Harriet. I was traveling. Here, the long awaited response:

White gold 2mm rounded band with 4 prong Tiffany style setting. Looks fab. The setting says ''shhhhhh!'' and the rock says ''HEY HEY HEY CHECK ME OUT!''

No problem, but we still need pictures!
