My New Cushion, with Setting to Follow Shortly

Hey there! So I have pictures of the first wax and thought I would share. To be honest, it's really not that exciting to look at,(I expected that though) but it's definitely a necessary part of the process. I was more excited by the CADs. That said, I don't really know what I should be looking for, but if anything jumps out for anyone, please let me know. The main reason for doing the wax is so that I can physically have something in my hand before the setting is cast. So far it's been all numbers and dimensions on paper, once they send the wax I should really be able to get a sense of the dimensions in person, and then get back to them with any changes.

A few dimensions:

Stone

CT - 1.55
7.89 x 6.51 x 4.40 mm
Depth - 67.6

Setting:

The widest part of the taper is 3.5mm, tapering back to 2mm
The 3 Melee stones will taper from 1.7, 1.5, 1.3

That stone is amazing!

Thanks Addy, let''s hope she feels the same way!

hi pauly1! i don''t have much experience looking at waxes so i can''t offer you anything helpful. however i just wanted to say i have been following your posts and seeing these wax shots has me continuing to feel excited for you and anxious to see this beautiful ring when it is finally completed! to my eyes it sure looks like it''s going to come together quite nicely!

Thanks Rainydaze. The wax is being shipped overnight as I type and will be here tomorrow. I''m looking forward to setting the stone in it so I can really get a sense of things. I will post pictures.

"1" Singular Sensation! Holy cow- that''s amazing! Congrats!

Thanks!
Well, the stone is in the mail on its way to Greenlake. Before I sent it off, I got a chance to take a few pictures with the stone in the wax. I was wondering if anyone has any last minute suggestions on the design before I lock it down. A few things to keep in mind when you look at the pictures. The culet will touch the bottom of the setting, (no space) I just didn''t want to take the chance of breaking the wax, it''s tight. Those prongs look huge in the pictures, they will not be when all is said and done. My only thought is on the taper of the shank. In some of the pictures it look really wide (it''s 3.5 mm at the widest point and tapers to 2mm.) if I go any narrower though the overhang on the stone will be to big. I''m thinking it''s really just an optical thing and will correct itself a bit when the stone is set lower.

I know it's not straight, I was so concerned about breaking the wax.

This is an example of what I was referring to. The taper is so wide in this picture!

More subtle here

Thanks SanDiegoLady. I don''t know exactly what makes a stone face up larger than it is, but I guess I got lucky.

Pauly, I had to come over here and look at your stone again, and it is certainly beautiful! And truly, your setting is going to be gorgeous!!!!!

WOW - you have made great progress with the ring! It''s lookin'' good, Pauly! The ring is going to be spectacular!

Thanks ! The setting is being cast on Monday. The ring should be done sometime the following week.

MAchick- Yes, I definitely think you''re more than entitled to chime in !

I found your ring about 6 months ago and have been piecing together my design ever since. I probably looked at 500 pictures of various Engagement Rings and yours just stood out above all the rest. It''s just so striking. She loves sapphires, but didn''t want to then on top, so I was looking for a way to work them into the design subtly.

I''m really trying to emphasize to them the delicateness of the ring, and I know that can''t really be captured in the CAD or wax.

Thanks for the FYI on the retightening, can you actually feel your stone loosening up? I will have to make sure she is aware of that down the line. I''m hoping with the prong setting it will be a little more secure than the half bezel, but I''ll definitely keep and eye on it.

As for the engraving, we did some sketches of FULL engraving on the sides, which I didn''t really care for. We decided that just SLIGHTLT curling around would strike a good balance. There’s a sketch at the top of the page to illustrate this a little better. You went with 5 stones, and I''ve settled on 3. I''m starting to think the side will look a little plain without the slight wrap around engraving. Then again, she is a size 4, so the stones might extend further down than I think. I think the wax will give me a better idea, which I should have soon. So I''m really between option 2 and 3, but I''m leaning towards 3 as originally planned.

It''s great to hear from you, I owe you a big thanks. I''m much more visual as apposed to creative and I wouldn''t have been able to come up with design without seeing your ring first. So a big thanks to you. I will definitely keep this post updated as things progress. I''m hoping to have it all done by the end of the year / early January.

I can''t really take credit for the design - I sent Agnieszka (@Greenlake) a bunch of different rings and told her what elements I liked and she put it together.

I can feel my stone loosening up - but nobody else can. I gently check it maybe twice a month (or if I hit it hard on something) and if I feel even the slightest of movement I take it in. No one else is ever able to feel the movement, my fiance thinks I''m crazy. But my jeweler has always backed me up.

Can''t wait to see your finished ring! (Although hopefully I''ll still like mine best!

I''m working with Melissa T. at Greenlake. I will write a complete review once the ring is finished, but to date things have gone very smoothly (O boy, I hope I didn''t just jinx myself). I actually asked about Agnieszka, there were a few weeks where Melissa was going on vacation and I was going to work with another designer on the CAD. I asked if she was available, knowing that she did your ring, but she in no longer there. Apparently she went back to school. I did ask who did the engraving on your ring, and if the same person could work on mine. I was told it was Lance and that he could certainly do the engraving on my ring as well.

The ring went out for casting on Monday, so with a little luck I might have some raw picture back today. I will definitely post them. Things are getting close; I''m starting to plan my proposal as well.

Blu - Thanks, stay tuned.

Oh my gosh, I can''t wait to see this beauty when it is complete! It''s going to be a stunner! That stone looks huge, and wow the setting...so exciting!

Woo Hoo! I cannot wait to see this beauty finished!

A quick update!

I'm being told the ring will be done by tomorrow night and in my hand by Friday!

A little teaser picture. This is in the VERY early stages and still has a long way to go, but I figured I would share. I jumped up a little on the sidestones. Instead of going with 1.7, 1.5. 1.3. It will be 2.0, 1.7, 1.5. It will fill things out a little better, help the look of the taper, and keep the rail very thin on each side. Getting close !

Thanks for the update, pauly! Looking good, looking good. Will you post pics on Friday too???

you know what would look super hot in your setting is if on the top of the prongs were tear drop diamonds

How exciting, I can''t wait to see the finished ring with that incredible cushion!!

Here it is, the first pictures just sent from Greenlake!

I was told that the ring didn''t photograph very well and that I had to see it in person. They were in a rush to get in the mail, so they couldn''t spend that much time on the photos. I will take lots this weekend and post them!

Question on Pricescope etiquette? Do I start a new post when I take all my pictures?

So here it it ...I can''t wait until tomorrow when I can finally see it in person!
