Give me a couple of months and you'll
be the first to see the earings.
I know no one appreciates diamonds like
us on Pricescope.

Good idea about getting other diamond recut. I wonder how much diamond you would loose on a 2.06ct? Should I buy another the same and get them both recut or wait and get the first one done and then get one to match. Any idea how much it costs for recutting? Don't know anyone thats ever had it done. I'm the only one I know personally who has this diamond obsession!

Yeah, the obsession... you and the 10000 browsers and posters of PS

There have been a few diamodns recut around here: Wink, Paul Antwerp and Eight Star were the doers, as far as I remember. If someone cuts H&A from less perfect diamonds, than this one person will both know what size (diameter) and weight the finished stone will be and should be capable to deliver the matching stone. It will probably turn out less convenient to get a "match" before the recut: it would be harder and more wasteful to optimize bots cuts and match them in the same time, IMO.

You could probably fidn some more stories about recutting on PS. I happen to remember two: a very recent one (LINK).

These examples may be good to show how things work, but should not be used as a prediction for what the size (and grades) of your finished piece could be. That is up to the cutter to tell you before starting to work: every piece is different.

Hope this helps

Thanks, satelite! Your stone is an example of finding winners a little off the beaten path, but using the appraisal process to verify, and all's well!
I have a 3 ct EGL certed stone that I almost ran from because of the EGL and all the bad things I had heard aboout them, but I trusted my jeweler and had it checked out and ended up with a winner like you!

Your stone is so gorgeous!

Thanks for that info Valeria.
Will look into it. A very good idea.
Jennifer I agree that we can be a
little prejudiced with the lesser
known certs but if you love the stone
and the price is right it pays to get
a second opinion. In my can a 3rd opinion.
Also when you are up to the 3.0ct price range
paying the premium of GIA or AGL doesn't always
pay off and its good to check out the other
certs. I had a budget of US$38,000 and thought
I would get an "F" colour for that - set price
in platinum and yellow gold. So to get a "D"
colour for the same price was a joy. I tell you
after having my "I" for 4 years I'm thoroughly
enjoying the "D"
If I had my time again and finances were a concern
- aren't they always - I would go smaller and try for
the "D" I love it.

For me cut first then colour then clarity just as the
experts say.

Beautiful ring Vinka! Congratulations on a great choice!

I know how you feel about the color. I went from a "K" to an "E", and am thrilled with the difference. I would have gone D if I could have found one that met my reqs.

I think recutting your original stone is a great idea. Even in earrings, the Ideal cut makes a huge difference since they send off flashes and sparks constantly. How much you would lose depends on the specs of the current cut. You might contact Garry (Cut Nut) about helping with the recut. He is in Australia, so that might be easier for you than a US vendor. If he doesn't want to get involved, he can probably point you in the right direction.

Can't wait to see those earrings!

Thanks for that Lop
I forgot about Gary. I travel
to Australia quite often. Its
only a few hours flight away.
He would certainly know of someone
if he couldn't do it himself.
Glad you are enjoying your "E"
