I've been working on this project for a couple of months now, and am finally able to share! My fiance bought a 1.42 OEC on Diamond Bistro. It is L color, and I believe VVS2 clarity. I had previously contacted Adam at OWD about finding an old stone and designing a setting. Even though my fiance found the stone elsewhere, Adam still agreed to do the setting. I had done a little price comparison, and his estimate was the best. I'd previously worked with ERD and was really happy with them, but decided to try OWD this time.
I met with Adam and shared lots of photos of antique / vintage octagon settings, and also some buttercup settings. We did a few drawings as well, just on paper. I wanted a semi-bezel that would surround the diamond in a geometric shape, but leave as much of the stone exposed as possible. We went through a few rounds of CADs, mostly due to me changing my mind about certain things, and also due to me wanting the setting (particularly the basket) as simple and linear as possible.
These were the last CADs I got. I had asked for 4 struts on the basket, but once I saw it in the CAD, I knew it didn't work, and said to go ahead with 8 struts. You'll also notice the milgrain on the CAD. I was unsure whether I'd want to add it, and was told I could decide later.
Continued in next post where I can add more photos...
