well, after much poring over tons of diamonds and settings and metals and whatnot, I finally decided to bite the bullet and make the plunge. it''s not too fancy, not a huge rock by any means, but I think that she''ll love it (she told me the other days with tears in her eyes that she''d marry me if I proposed with a ring made out of tin foil, but platinum will have to do), and thats the only thing that matters to me.

three months of my meager salary, but worth every penny of it.

Awww, thanks guys, I really appreciate the encouragement- I can't post too much right now, because I'll be proposing in two weeks or so, and I don't want anything to spoil the surprise, but don't worry, once I do, I'll be sure to post lots of deets and handshots, etc...

the stone is a GIA 1.0 ct, very good cut (although it was rated 1.5 on the HCA, at least from the numbers that I put in). SI1, G, with VG polish and symmetry. The only thing that I wasn't huge on the stone was a slightly thick/thick girdle, but honestly, neither of us can really tell and neither of us really care that much either. The inclusions were not in significant areas (I still can't tell where they are from all my lookings). Total price was $5555, though I could have saved $120 or so with direct transfer, I went with my credit card to bump my American Express rewards to 5%/1.5% since with the wedding, etc, I probably will be spending a good deal more.

Haha, it helps that her hand is tiny and dainty, a 4.5, so it make the stone look bigger.

I worked with Barbara at UD, who was absolutely wonderful. I really enjoyed talking to her and she was always so professional and enthusiastic, very responsive to my questions and requests. I definitely thought about WF and GOG, but figured UD had so many good reviews on the web, that I was not likely to go wrong there, even if I paid a little bit more than I could have. She made me feel very comfortable, even though this was the largest purchase that I ever have made online.



(Here is a picture that we took on our one year anniversary- the day she told me that she loved me and was ready to marry me. (I'd been ready since last November, and I moved halfway around the country to convince her!))

I can't wait to tell you more about our story, because I think that is far more interesting than any ol' rock anyways
