While visiting my mother this past week, she showed me a ring she has in her possession that has been passed down through our family and suggested it as my Something Old for my wedding next summer. I was THRILLED and gladly agreed to her idea, as she wore this ring pinned inside her dress for her wedding to my father 25 years ago and it has a lot of history. This ring is approximately a hundred years old. It was my great great grandmother''s wedding ring. She and my great great grandfather had a strong and loving marriage for over fifty years, and I think it will be a special blessing to be able to have it with me on my wedding day. The ring has two rubies and four seed pearls set in gold. It only fits on my middle finger, so I may pin it to my bouquet or something. I took a picture to share with you all.

It''s beautiful and of course has sentimental value which makes it really special! Those rubies are a very nice color too.
Will you wear it sometimes after the wedding?

What a special ring with with lots of sentiment and family history to wear at your own wedding! I love it! Maybe you should pin it to your dress instead of the bouquet - I'd be afraid of it going AWOL somehow.

I love the pretty color too. My mother currently has it in her jewelry box, so I am not sure if she will allow me to take it and wear it after the wedding. I really look forward to having something special like this on my wedding day.

I still have over a year to decide how to incorporate it into my wedding somehow, but I am more worried about it slipping off my finger due to the larger size. I plan on losing a little weight before I get married, so I don''t think my fingers will be getting any larger than they are now. I don''t want to resize it or alter it with pads or anything, so I may just securely pin it to my dress or the bouquet for just the ceremony.

Oh, equestrienne! It''s lovely...and what a special treasure!

I just love it''s history, too..

I say pin it to the dress.
OT: I like your other ring too.

What a beautiful ring. I so love rings with a history like that.

What beautiful rings -- your mothers and yours too!

I agree, pin it to your dress for safety if it doesn''t fit well at the time of your wedding. But definitely have it with you on that special day!

what a gorgeous ring! I say pin it to your dress too... only bc I realize now, over a month after the wedding, that I have no idea what happened to my bouqet,(I didn''t toss it, and meant to give it to my mom) and I wouldn''t want to lose something that valuable!!! Or, put someone in charge of keeping track of it, like one of your BM or something.

HI:

Your ruby ring is devine--and special!

cheers--Sharon

That ring is so beautiful!

Thank you for the comments and advice, everyone! I just think this ring is so pretty and deserves to be shared and admired for its age and its story. Great great grandma was a Cherokee Indian too, if I am recalling the geneaology correctly... She was married to a man who at 14 was a stowaway on a boat coming to the US from Ireland.

I think I will try to pin in inside my bodice when the big day rolls around, but only for the ceremony. I''d hate to lose it in the reception hall!
