I love it. Wish my Canon would do better on macro but this is the best I could get. I am really surprised at the color and sparkle -- wish it would show in the pic. I want another one, a really really really big one....

Another one.

Matata - COngrats on your new plaything! Garnet is my fav. stone (yes, even over diamonds). Yeah, get a bigger one, too! Unfortunatley, my camera does not have a macro function at all - what can we do to get better pictures? It would be nice with these coloured stones to really show the colour and the details of the cuts... what does Homer do to get such good photos?

It's a beaut! Keep us posted about the setting...

Bad news. After much contemplation last night, I decided to return the stone. It's too small for the pendant I had in mind. I should have realized that the shield shape at .67 would be much smaller looking than a round or cushion. I took a look at ajsgems site just a bit ago and I can't find a larger stone that I like as much as this one. It would work in a dainty ring or in a ring with another stone, but I don't want another ring.

If anyone wants to buy it, PM me for info; elsewise it's back to Bangkok as soon as I get the shipping instructions.

Matata,

I don't know how much you are planning to spend on making the pendant, but in the design you can always use a diamond pave 'frame', framing the tsav to make the entire thing look bigger.

Just my 0.02 of course..

Katbadness - your 0.02's worth is a great idea - I can already see it - maybe Matata you could reconsider and then you can put the postage towards the setting - I would never have thought of that myself - not enough imagination I guess.

Thanks for the input katbadness & Danica. I'm working on another option for the setting -- flush setting the tsav into a similarly shaped piece of gold and setting the diamond above it. Sketch follows. OR, setting the diamond above the metal piece -- in the same position as the attached Mark Morrell piece.

Looks the Morrell pic won't load. Ya'll can find it on his site under "in the works."

I give up. I can't get anything to upload tonight.

This must be it... surely like how the ball chain and the shape of prongs work together (if I am not seeing things in that pic) - I'd try to match the size of those...

Anyway, the diamond in the pic should be about the size of yours Matata (judging from the probable size of the elements int he setting), so the pear would be about 11/12 X 7/8 mm at maybe 3 carats?). you might like to plug in the shape and size only (not any other specs) on the "Smart Search" at Multicolour and see what type of stones and colors pop up - a whole gemology atlas! For better or worse the respective serch engine is a darling

The seting effectively places a polished mirror behind the pear - it can't but help the color show in a darker stone and, in general, lighten up no matter what you set in it.

Ana, what a great idea! I had never heard of a setting like this, and how it can lighten up a stone, is great! I have a very deep London Blue Trillion cut, and that may just do the trick!

Matata, if that is how you will set it, I think that will be lovely! Plus it will really bring out the brightness fo the stone, as it looks like it can really show color, when lit well! Good luck and let us know what you finally decide on!!!
