I finally got my dream ring for now. I say for now, because at some point I hope turn this diamond into an earring (and get a matching one of course) or pendant and get a huge elongated cushion for a ring like Jennifer Garners. However, we are a few million away from that day (my husband works in tech start ups, so we have a few chances to make this happen).
Diamond details:
2.73 GIA Triple X ISi1 (eyeclean)
Sourced through Solomon Brothers
Setting details:
Vatche U113
Knife edge
Thinnest band width they could make (I think it ended up being somewhere between 1.5-2)
Wedding band details:
Lord of Gems on Etsy.
.25 of H SI round diamonds bezel set on a twig band
I went ahead and ordered another of the wedding band because I like it so much! I got the ring about 6 months ago and have been searching for bands ever since. Having smaller fingers (size 4.25) most channel set bands at places like Tiffanys felt way too wide and I was prone to want to take them off to do anything. I had finally decided I would just get a few stacked bands to wear on days I don't feel like wearing the big rock. I ordered the first band from Lord of Gems as a tester. I figured if it fit with the ring I would wear them together and if not - oh well. The big diamond makes it clear I'm taken. I was surprised to see they not only fit together, but they are extremely comfortable together!
My previous ring was a very unique 2.5 carat Princess cut (2.51 EGL G VVS1) in a custom halo, with 2 .25 round diamonds on each side and a twisted pave band. I had an unfortunate situation with it and thank god it was insured! My insurance gave me the option to get a remake to a tee or just take the payout. I only had one jeweler option through the insurance and I really didn't feel comfortable with him. The halo wasn't going to be custom made and honestly, I think the halo was what caused the first incident. I decided to take the money and began what was a 9 month search for a new ring. I finally craved simplicity and decided to go for the classic look. I would have thought I would have received less compliments on my new ring because it is more traditional, but instead it is the opposite! I receive 10x the compliments!
I would definitely recommend Rami and the team at Solomon Brothers. He matched prices, had no issues getting the inventory, and even let me return the first setting. I looked at the first setting at 3 stores prior to pulling the trigger, but when it arrived, the whole thing was very dark and didn't match the center diamond. I even took it into a store and when I compared it, it just wasn't the same. It was another vatche setting, but one that had pave diamonds. Rami helped me pick out a new setting and did all of this very quickly.
