I did this about 10 years ago. It was about 1 year from the time I applied until I called for tests, interviews etc. Once I was called, the process went pretty quickly.

My husband and a friend both did it, I think in 2003. Each had a few glitches with the process, including in my friend''s case the INS losing her application, but in all I don''t think it took either one more than two years.

A friend of mine had his application lost too. They said he had to start over and reapply. After a year of waiting, he said screw it. We lost contact, so I don''t know if he ever decided to go through and get his citizenship.

We have to go through it again in a year and a half with TGuy. He doesn''t really care to be an American Citizen, but it''s the safest way to make sure he can stay in the country. I also have to find out how to get my little girl Australian Citizenship!

I''m going through it right now. I put in my application in July 2007, went to get my fingerprint taken in Sept, and my test/interview is actually on 5/21. So all in all about 1 year I guess, which is much quicker than I had expected.

Yes, my friend had to basically start over again, since her job required her to have citizenship. I think she also moved sometime during the process, which also screwed things up a little, despite the fact she duly notified the INS of the move.

My husband moved here from Cuba in 1967 (he was 2), and didn't bother to get naturalized until 2003, partly because he really wanted to be able to vote in the 2004 election!

Hey Skip! The Bahamas were beautiful. We had a great time. I guess I better get started on the wedding planning now!

Thanks for all your input on this! You have been a great help.
