Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo Ring

Hello!

I am now in search of a diamond wedding band to go with my sapphire and diamond halo ring. There was an option to have the diamond band curve along with my halo, but I would prefer not to go that route as I would like to wear the band alone as well. I have had quotes from 2200-4200 for 7-9 diamonds F color, all under 1ctw. I checked out IDJewelery and was pleasantly surprised with their prices. I know many PSers have used them in setting their colored stones, but has anyone recently purchased a diamond band from them, and would you highyl recommend them? Are the quality of the diamonds and band very good? My halo is F VVS2, but I just want the color to match, I do not care too much about clarity if that doesn't affect the color too much. IDJ states that their diamonds are F-G SI1.

Here's a photo of my sapphire ring (again). I am looking for a little more than a carat for the wedding band. If anyone has pictures of their halo rings with wedding bands, or if there already exists a post, please let me know!! Thank you!

P.S. My ideal band would have ovals sitting W-E with 2 prongs and would only go half way around the band. I wanted diamond ovals to match my oval sapphire, cheesy?

P.S.S. I was going to post this under the Diamond forum, but I really would love to see what diamond bands PSers are wearing with their colored gemstones. Please let me know if I should move this post over there? Thank you!

I apologize, there quote for 4200 is for 1.40ctw!!

SS: you might get more responses faster if you ask Ella to move this thread over to Hangout or RockyTalk. While some people frequent both, the majority of diamond experts are there...

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Thanks Minous - I'll just copy and start a new thread over there! By any chance do you wear a diamond band with any of your gemstone rings?

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

A few of us on CS have diamond bands, but the enthusiasm for them is going to be on RT. I think of diamonds as the accessory for colored stones.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Thanks Pregcurious. Any thoughts on IDJ for diamond bands??

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

No, I wish! In fact, full disclosure, I haven't been wearing any of my rings at all lately. My hands are dry, and they shrink in the winter and nothing fits, and I feel like I'm working all the time with my hands - gardening, cooking, cleaning, exercising, various and sundry projects, that the minute I put on a ring, I just end up taking it off somewhere and forgetting about it and then I can't find them, and then I get scared, and then I.... You get the picture, eh? ;))

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

LOL, you sound like me where I'm always banging my ring around the home! I totally get it. :D

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Hi SapphireSun,
Gorgeous ring! You can never post too many pics of that blue!

I have a question. You want to wear this with your halo, but not have a curved band, right? Is it going to sit under your halo? How much clearance do you have?

I used to wear a 3/4 eternity channel set band (5 pointers), which slid under my halo. Still scratched up the underside of the halo, but no big deal. I liked the look of the two bands sitting flush.

Something to think about.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Thank you Periwinklegirl! My halo is a curved basket so I'm not sure the eternity band will sit flush with it. But that's ok. I think. If you have any pictures of your eternity band with your halo I would love to see it. The melee on my halo are .05ct but instead of having the same on the eternity band I would like a 7 diamond band with a ctw of 1-1.40. I just want to make sure that I get the bling in there this time around. :)

I'm not getting many answers so I might try a new thread on SMTB to see if anyone has a colored stone and diamond halo with an eternity band. Just want to see how that will look!

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

I would not do a curved band because it looks very odd when I wear it alone. I have not purchased from IDJ but have heard from many seasoned posters in RT that if you tell them you are a PSer and want well cut diamonds, they will select really nice ones for you. Their pricing is also very competitive and I will contact them when I am ready for my next project.

Are you planning to wear the two rings together? Based on the shape of your current ring, the two will not sit flush so there will be a gap which I think will be noticeable. My other caution is that the two rings will rub each other, potentially damaging either the diamonds and/or the setting. When I wear my coloured stone rings, they are always worn alone. Other rings are either worn on a different finger or a different hand altogether.

Hi SapphireSun,
Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of my halo with the old eternity. Here's one with a little bezeled stacking band that I sometimes wear. But my whole ring is much smaller than yours, (the centre stone is under 6mm wide), so I don't know if it'll be of any help. Neither of my sapphires is halo'd (at least not yet!), so I don't have anything of equivalent size to show you. This is the only coloured stone ring I ever wear with a band.

With the old channel set band, the halo still covered the band and it was only visible on the sides. Eventually I realized I wanted to see the whole band and started to wear the bezeled band with the whole set as a spacer.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Naanu has photos of her halo morganite ring paired with a diamond wedding band on page 67 of the pinned "Colored Stone E-rings/Eyecandy" thread. I think her rings look lovely together and may give you reassurance. :)

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Periwinkle, your band is the style I'm after! The marquise will be slightly larger and the rounds much smaller, and it will not be bezeled. They say they can do a prongs setting. It will be 5 marquise at 1.ctw and 4 rounds at .40ctw, but the price is too high for me right now. I guess I better check out the jewelery stores to get a feel for how it will look and feel on my finger with the sapphire!

Chrono, I know I opted out of getting a matchy curve band to go with the sapphire. I would like to wear my eternity band alone at some point so I also want it to have the bling factor...matching the melee on my halo won't do that. :)

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

To address the donut (bump) at the bottom of your halo, you can get someone to make a spacer for you with a piece cut out. The spacer can go between your diamond band and halo. Someone on PS has a spacer like that, but I can't remember who.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

I don't have any halos anymore, otherwise I'd post pictures. You are definitely going to have a gap between rings, so I'd start thinking about a thin (1mm or so) spacer to go between the two, or expect to have your setting scratched by the diamonds.

Also, I expect that the prices are high for what you're looking for because you're looking for fancy shaped diamonds. Small marquise or oval shaped diamonds are going to be pricey/hard to find (been there, done that). Also, with the elongated shapes you run the risk of getting diamonds with bowties. Personally, unless I could inspect the diamonds beforehand or trust my vendor big time, I would go with all rounds. I'd actually do a ring much like Periwinkle's, which I believe is a Tiffany Swing Ring replica (kind of).

http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Ite...params=s+5-p+4-c+287462-r+-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+

Then you don't have to worry about bowties in fancy shaped stones, and you get the same outline.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Hi Frekechild, I know I will have some space between rings. I need to go to a jewelry store and try out some eternity bands and see if I won't mind so much the space (right now in my head I don't think I will, but maybe when I actually see it I'll think differently). I just hate going to jewelry stores and trying things on when I know I won't be buying anything. It's like giving them false hope?

That is almost the exact ring as at The Natural Sapphire Co. It'll have bigger marquise and the ring will be about 1.40ctw, but it's still too pricey for me right now. We can start saving up! I have also asked for prongs setting instead of the bezel setting, which they said they could do. I think marquise looks pretty oval and will match my sapphire. :)

The nice thing about my sapphire and halo setting is that it's very simple so I feel pairing it up with an eternity band won't be too difficult. It's just a sleek curved basket. Plus, perhaps I won't wear them together much as I'm not getting many hits at all over at SMTB. :(sad

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

You'll be the one wearing it so if you like the set, then save up for it and enjoy it. We all have different tastes and there's no right or wrong choice. Just as some love halos, others dislike it. Trying out bands at a store is an excellent suggestion. Sometimes what looks great in pictures does not look as pretty on our hands.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Here are my two choices:

http://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-bands/verragio-scalloped-diamond-wedding-ring-2231.htm

I hope the above link works. It's from Whiteflash and although the diamonds are not marquise, it has the look I love!! I also love that it's raised so I think it would be perfect with my halo, no rubbing? Lastly, I love the price, but my concern is how tiny the diamonds are.

The other contender is The Natural Sapphire Co., but the price is a concern for me. We could afford it, but I feel strange about spending so much on jewelry. However, I loooooove the marquise diamonds and they would be pretty hefty at around .20ct each (5) and rounds at .10ct each (4). I think it would look significant on my finger and it has the bling factor I desire.

What do you think?

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Forgot to mention that the bezel band with marquise will be prongs set instead of bezel so it will look different. I'm hoping for a more sleeker look than bezel, which can look heavy to me and might not mesh well with my halo.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Hi Sapphire Sun,
I really like the style you've chosen (no surprise there). I like the contrast between the plain shank on the halo and the scalloped band. I find my bezels quite sleek - but my stones are much smaller than yours. I also really like how mine looks from the bottom, the bezeled scallops give a nice effect - you get the idea from the bezel band pic you posted.

I like the one from the Natural Sapphire company more, the verragio one is very fussy and it looks very delicate for daily wear. Also, as you pointed out, the diamonds are very small.

But that's perhaps just a matter of taste.

I would definitely recommend a complete eternity, because of spinning.

Are you going to wear a spacer so the prongs on the band don't rub on the underside of the halo?

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Hi Periwinkle, thank you for giving your thoughts on the rings! I've been in contact with WF and actually am awaiting some price quotes from them tomorrow. The diamonds on the scallop ring are only .15ctw so I've asked for .50ctw and 1ctw, which will widen the band and give it more durability. My husband is not too keen on the double banding as it does look very fragile. I'm so glad that that you pointed out the contrast of that band with my band because that's exactly what I thought too! I've also asked for no beading, but it still will be intricate with the back and front design...I just find it to be very feminine and beautiful. I also the thought the height would be nice with my halo - no overlapping, but you're right...there will be much spacing between the two.

I love love the marquise diamonds on The Natural Sapphire Co. band. It will actually be more like the ring below, but with marquise diamonds. I think the prong settings will look nicer with my sapphire ring. Again, I'm trying to get the price down so I'll have to settle for only a 9 stone ring.

It's been fun checking out all of my options, but I hate window shopping for this reason, I just want it already! :D

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

I adore the WF Verragio band for the elegance and how unique it is but I wonder if it is practical for everyday wear. It looks very bespoke (something you won't see someone else wearing).

I suppose I am in the camp of not having anything a full eternity but 3/4. I find that the diamonds on the underside tend to get the most banged up (as evidenced by any rings you wear when you look at the shank especially if worn 24/7) and given that finger size will change over time (normal weight gain as one gets older and for others, having children messes that up too), it seems better to have the option to resize which a full eternity does not allow.

Secondly, I don't know about you but for me, I have trouble wearing a full eternity or even 3/4 when the ring gets too large. My hands are very sensitive so even the smoothest spared prong feels bumpy between the fingers. I know many don't have this issue though. I don't seem to have the same issue with bezeled rings.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Chrono is right that a less than full eternity is a better choice. I spoke hastily when I recommended a full eternity.

One of the nice things about the scalloped eternity is that you can have it made with a little marquise shaped spacing bar. Which is a nice solution between the spinning problem and needing to be able to change the size over time.

I traded up from a semi-eternity to a 3/4 within about two months because the spinning was driving me crazy! I wanted to see diamonds not metal.

The only two semi eternities I've ever worn were bezel or channel set, thus low profiles. Otherwise I think I'd have the same trouble with feeling the prongs between my fingers. I use my hands too much all day not to feel it if my rings dig into them. In fact when I first got my halo, it was really hard to get used to how much it dug into my other fingers (the band is relatively thicker than any of my other rings).

You might want to try wearing various types of eternities and then pick up your purse or shopping bags or hold your phone and text or whatever to see how they feel when you're using your hands. It was lifting/carrying bags that made me feel the metal digging in.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Question, would it look "strange" to have only a 9 stone bezel ring?????? I think the bezel would fit better with my sapphire, as seen in Periwinkle's photo, but normally they are complete. The prong setting is higher and will be competing with the halo and it also looks off as my band doesn't have melee running down the sides. I think this is the reason why I'm not getting hits on show me your halo and eternity bands! Unless it's a matching set, it's so hard to wear two big rings on one finger it seems :)

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

If you are going with the same setting as Periwinkle, I like her suggestion of full eternity except the very last marquise diamond is replaced with a "blank" metal piece. This allows you the option of resizing down the road without the ring looking awkward.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

You can have a nine stone bezel. Depending on your ring size that could be 1/2 - 3/4 eternity.
But you might want to get it from somewhere with a good trade-in policy, as DSS sets in faster with semi-eternities.
I could never understand why anyone would pay so much more for a full eternity when no one can see the back half. Then I got one. And suddenly I understood.

You might find it useful to go into a mall and try on one like mine. You can get a feel for how it looks with your halo even though it won't have the full bling effect of your marquises.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Hi SapphireSun,
I snapped these for you today. Don't know if they will help you or not. Here's my bezeled band with an oval sapphire. The band doesn't sit flush but the gap isn't too bad, more noticeable on the sides of course. My oval sapphire sort of has room for the band under the basket.
Maybe yours wouldn't?
The second pic is with the band not under the basket, just touching it. The gap's more noticeable.

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Hi Periwinkle! Thank you so much for those photos!! It would seem that we think alike because thats exactly what I'm looking for! I think if I try to go for larger marquise diamonds (.20ct) that it wouldn't look right with my ring, it's like the sapphire doesn't want competition!

TNSC also has .10ct marquise and .003ct rounds so I may just go that route...and WF sent me a half bezel marquise band and it doesn't look too bad at all! Thanks for all your help!

Re: Need a Diamond Band to Go With My Sapphire Diamond Halo

Sounds like you have some good options.

If you get a chance, post us some pics of the WF band with your halo. We'd love to see it and other people may be looking for this combination in the future.

Looking forward to seeing you what you decide.
