Ring size 4. I have an affinity for BIG eternity bands... But I feel like they might overshadow my 2.5 carat solitaire e-ring. I actually think a very aesthetically pleasing combo would be an eternity band that exactly matches the mm of my e-ring... but I feel like I want a big eternity bad (relatively -- I have size 4 fingers so it would be a little awkward to have a 4 ctw eternity). My e-ring is a knife edge, and the thickest part is 3 mm.

So if you had my e-ring, how big would you go for an eternity band?

I'm also loving a 5-stone ring for a wedding band... how big would you go for that, if you were me?

Here's a pic for reference... sorry, taken with a cell phone.

I think it would be hard to over-shadow that bad boy! I would go as big as you can afford! LOL (but kind of serious, too :) But I would also get a plain band in case you wanted to tone things down for a day.

EHR2009, your beautiful, elegant hands make you 1.5 carat e-ring look just as big as mine!!!! You have one of my all-time favorite sets on here. Maybe I''ll just copy you.

I''m just kidding. But you have a stunning set!!!

WOW thank you, Gleam! I LOVE your ring, as well!!! I would peruse the Celebrity Rings thread because there are lots of examples of big eternity bands that look AMAZING!

you can totally rock .25ct stone each on an eternity band. I tried on a Jared's Peerless five stone made up of .25 ct stones each with my 1.21 carat, and I didn't think it overshadow my e-ring at all, it actually made it look more "equals" than anything. before I tried it on, I would have said it will compete, but I actually like the look. and I am about your finger size as well. Have you tried on any five stones? I bet if you do, you will find the one size that might draw you in more. So eternity ring size made of at least .25 ct each would Not overshadow your Huge diamond at all.

I''m inclined to agree with EHR...there''s no overshadowing that beautiful solitaire!!!

Maybe get two slightly thinner eternity bands? Maybe 2 mm? And stack one on top and one below. That''ll give some major BLING while maintaining the stunning solitaire front and center...

What a beautiful solitaire!

If you really want to go big, you could get wear the eternity or five stone on your right hand (and maybe wear smaller eternity bands - 10 points or so with your engagement ring if you want the e-ring/wedding band combo). Then you could go as big as you liked with the eternity/five stone without competing with your e-ring.

Elle_Chris and Demelza have gorgeous 5 stone bands with 50 pointers. The biggest eternity band I''ve seen in person was one with 75 pointers. It was gorgeous, but she did wear it on her right hand (so as not to compete with the 6+ carat solitaire on her left hand

I think 10 pointers in the eternity band would be a max. Vesper has 8pointers with her 2ct and it looks perfect, so going a tad bigger would be propotional for your diamond.

Vesper''s set is actually one of my very favorites, and I think that''s because the width of the eternity band closely matches the width of her e-ring band. She has a lovely set.

WHOA!!!!...Your solitare is packing some major blingage. LOL. I agree it would be hard to overshadow your solitare. If you like the bling, an eternity band on each side of your solitare would look fantastic, or the stacked look of a plain band and eternity band. Whatever you choose...I am sure it will look amazing!!!

And 10 pointers would be 3mm!

Gleam,

I have a 3.5 carat 6mm eternity and wear it on the other hand from my ering.

First, the eternity band scratches the ering, and a stone like yours has lots of finger coverage, looks fantastic and looks great as a stand alone piece. What''s the old adage? ... less is more...

Hi Gleem, I have an eternity with 10 pointers and I think it is perfect, but I would go bigger if I could. I have a 2.57, and also wear a 1 ct. 5 stone and the three
are very very blingy together. Sometimes, a little to much. It draws a lot of comments from strangers.

I wish I could post a pic but I am having trouble re sizing and getting them from photobucket. If anyone knows how to do that in iphoto I would love to hear.

I would LOVE to see photos of your eternity and 5 stone rings! I don''t think you can link to other photo hosting sites. You have to upload your photo to Pricescope. Just click the "Attach File" button when you reply to a post.

sna77''s wife wears a size 3.5. her solitaire is 2.37. Here''s the eternity band she choose. it''s blingy but I think it''s fabulous. Of course 10 pointers would be just as beautiful if you wanted to go a little smaller.

2.86 tcw

Platinum

18 round brilliant diamonds (circa .16 each)

D-E color stones

VVS-VS clarity

Size: 3.5, 3.7mm width

I''ve seen that set before -- beautiful, thank you for posting so I could enjoy it again!!! I agree the proportions are just perfect.

here''s mine, eternity and ering. Center stone is 3 carats and eternity 3.5. I took pic of it but wear them as stand alones on either hand

hi gleam :)

here are some of my ''rules of thumb'' for ring combo''s...

for a diamond wedding band, i dont go above half the total carat weight of my diamond solitaire. so - if your engagement ring is 2.5ct, i would keep the 5 stone wedder to 1.25 total, ie 5 x .25 stones. that would be a wonderful set.

if your engagement ring has side stones (yours doesnt, but thought i''d include this anyway), i make sure that the stones in an eternity band are no more than 20% the size of the smallest side stone. otherwise, it all sort of tends to blend together and look ''blocky''. you want to keep your engagement stone as the stand out focus in your set.

keep in mind, this is my opinion only, but i''ve been collecting bands for many years now and have about 48 at last count, so i have a bit of everything - not all of them felicitous.
20.gif

if i were you, i wouldnt do both a wedder and an eternity, as i think they''d be more or less the same thing, just different sizes, at which point they''d just look like they wouldnt match. i''d do the 5 stone wedder, and do a an eternity ring big enough to quench your passion as a right hand ring. big eternity bands mean you cant close your fingers - which is fine - except that they also then dont line up with your engagement ring. at that point they look like they dont go together much at all. i dont like things which are ''matchy matchy'', but i do like to have *some* degree of cohesion, balance and complement between the rings on the same finger.

so if it were me, i''d have your engagement ring, a 1.25ct 5 stone wedding ring, and on the other hand, an eternity ring of, say, .35 - .5ct stones - all the way around.

now *that''s* a statement. :)

and you crack me up, EHR!

Gleam,
Were you going to look into having an eternity band commissioned to match your RB? I believe you said your stone is a J color stone? I was wondering about the juxtaposition of a standard eternity which is made of G/VS2 stones with a much warmer/lower color solitaire? Is there a fellow PS member who has photos of this to share? I would be curious to see if the color differences are quite noticeable. Just my .02

Wow whitby, those are great rules of thumb!

Gleam, your ring is awesome and will not be overshadowed. I think an eternity of 10 pointers would be amazing. Then you can get a nice big honkin'' five stone for your RHR

No hard and fast rules by my book. I have several eternity bands, the one I got from Facets is 3.38, TCW. It looks great with my ering. Go around try some on and see what YOU feel comfortable with. I love your ering, it''s gorgeous!!! But will say 10 pointers is a great way to go...

Honestly, I would choose an eternity band containing stones whose size don''t exceed the mm width of your e-ring setting. Maybe do two e-bands, stacking one on either side of your e-ring. Of course, that is just what appeals to my eye. If you want to rock an e-band that is very significant in visual size, then do it.

I have been thinking about this too! I am in LOVE with the look of a substantial eternity band with a solitaire lately. I think you could totally do 15-20 pointers for an eternity band. I have a 2 ct RB and wear a size 2.5 but am planning on getting an eternity band with 15 pointers to make approximately 2.5 cts total. I think an eternity band of 2.5-3 cts would compliment your e-ring as opposed to competing with it.

Your solitaire is breathtaking!!! Absolutely stunning!! In terms of your future eternity band, I wouldn''t go above 3mm width. I mean, even if you go bigger, it probably won''t overshadow your big rock, but it may look more proportionate at 3mm. I`m very curious what you`ll decide and can''t wait to see pics - it`s going to be an amazing combo no matter which way you go!

I matched my eternity band weight to my stone. I have a 2ct solitaire so my band is 2 ctw. I love it, it's perfect. I tried smaller bands but didn't get the same happy feeling inside. Plus, I like things to match(my earrings are 2 ctw, my stone is 2 ct, my band is 2ctw...you get the idea). I also wear a size 4(although for my eternity I did get it slightly larger because it's thicker than my solitaire band and wearing more than one ring makes rings tighter).

20 pointers

Hi Gleam, I am going to try to get my son at ucla to help via phone. I may be able to email them to him and he can figure it out. My problem has always been posting
that my photos are too large pixel wise and I had to jump through hoops to re-size on photo buck then post them here. My son who helped isn''t living here anymore
so I am stuck
14.gif
. I think there are some photos of both on my old thread with my 1.70

Woohoo! It actually worked! I feel accomplished! I actually wear the five stone and eternity reversed. The five stone has north/south prongs which really chewed up
that ring, but it works better the other way around. I will see if I can get the other photos resized with my 2.57.
