Finally pulled the trigger on a e-ring after months of lurking and reading :read:

I'll do a full write-up later with hand shots when she receives it :D Just want to make sure I did good first lol.
Is this a thumbs up or should I consider returning it? Would love everyone's opinions. I also attached the GIA plot. Any inclusions that I should be worried about?

I noticed the date of issue is almost 2 years ago, should this be an issue? Does this likely mean it was pre-owned and can possibly have some damage? If so, would you recommend me to get an appraisal or re-certification from GIA?

I think you did an excellent job, what a lovely cushion! With VS2 you should not have to worry about any inclusions durability wise and VS2 in that size should be pretty much eye clean, plus you have the diamond in your possession.

If so, would you recommend me to get an appraisal or re-certification from GIA? I wouldn't worry personally, sometimes a diamond can take a while to find a new home, 2 years isn't that long in the scheme of things. You could get an appraisal if you wanted as the stone is now set, as mounting permits, but I don't think you need to worry. Did the stone come from one of the online vendors?

I wish you the best of luck with the proposal, please post lots more photos and hand shots if your lady is ok with that!

That's an H?

I would never have thought that, it looks far less tinted than I (as a noob) was expecting! :appl:

I am drawn to the color of the stone :lickout:

@ Lorelei - Thank you for your expert eyes and input!! Whew, I'm glad to hear that it is a good cushion. I definitely can't see any inclusions but I don't really know what I am looking for so I guess since I can't find it then I'm good. I got the stone from ERD. Do you think I should get an appraisal?
Thanks for the wish! I'm sure she wouldn't mind showing off her ring and will be sure to post the pics after the proposal. ;))

@ OoohShiny - I wonder if the fluorescence might help it appear as white as it does.

@ Fancygems - Thanks! I couldn't manage to capture the fire and sparkle with my compact point and shoot camera but this stone really does give off amazing light performance.

If anyone has any tips on getting the fire and sparkle on camera, please let me know.

You are welcome, very glad to help! As this cushion is ' one of Mark's' that's even better. Mark has an excellent rep here and has done so for many years, I don't think you need to get an appraisal personally especially as the ring is mounted, but that's a personal choice. The stone really is white, just gorgeous and although the fluorescence is faint, who knows, it might be making the H colour a little more crisp in some lighting. Photos, try outside with the light behind the stone, rig up a tripod to keep both ring and camera as steady as possible, no flash and use the high definition mode according to your camera.

Just started my learning process. In the first two pics, is that considered sparkle or fire or totally something different? lol

In terms of appraisal, if a stone is mounted does it also play a factor in whether to get an appraisal or not? why is that? sorry, i'm a noob

Great cushions with fantastic spread. I think you did great!

Please don't apologize for being a noob, we all were once! Concerning an appraisal, it's harder to get an accurate overview of a stone that is mounted as parts of the diamond are difficult to access and the colour grade harder to judge, so if you see the term ' graded as mounting permits,' that's what it means. You have a lovely stone from a trusted vendor with an excellent rep, I personally don't think you need to get an appraisal unless it's important to you, did Mark send an appraisal with the ring?

@ Lorelei - I'll answer the bolded part as that's probably for me :) Yes, it came with just a quick appraisal price. There wasn't any details or analysis other than the 4 C's and measurements, were there suppose to be as I never seen an appraisal before? Speaking of price, got it for about $10k, is that a good deal? Also, his appraisal price was $12k ... is that kind of low and should I be worried in not being able to find a suitable replacement with the insurance company if the worst nightmare of losing the stone came true?
I can't wait to try out your camera tips and see if I can get the fire in the photo. The only thing to do now is google what is my high definition function on my specific camera model. Lol

@ tates - I'm glad you asked that question about the appraisal regarding mounting as I was wondering that myself.

@ Gypsy - Thank you for helpful advice! I know my future FI admires a 2 carat but it is unfortunately out of my budget. Luckily for this forum and the wealth of information I find here that spread is what really affects the size appearance. What ct size do you think this spread faces up as, maybe an average 1.75 or 1.8 ct?

It looks like a really nice one! Did we help or did you pick that by yourself? Cushions are hard to pick.

It has a very nice, clear, crisp faceting pattern and its a bright stone. Nice job! And really nice pictures!
