Hi. New guy here. I am looking to buy an engagement ring in the near future. I haven''t selected a diamond yet, but I''ll probably buy something with characteristics similar to the following:

Shape: Round
Carats: 0.85
Cut: Ideal
Color: G/H
Clarity: VS2/SI1

I know my girlfriend wants a yellow gold setting. I think she would like something slightly flashier than a solitaire. She mentioned that she likes a tapered effect from the center diamond to the sides of the ring. I thought maybe a three stone ring with two pear shaped side stones would work. Here is one possibility that I found: http://www.bluenile.com/product_details.asp?oid=6473&page=1&col=2&row=3&pos=8&set_shape=

Any comments on this setting or any other possibilities? I am concerned that the yellow gold prongs for the side stones might look weird since the center diamond has platinum prongs.

Welcome to Pricescope Larry and congratulation on upcoming proposal

Yellow gold prongs will not stand out on in real life like they do on magnified picture so if she likes YG don''t worry about it. Plus those side pears are sitting lower than a center round so it''s not even the same level design wise.

Hiya Larry!

Yeah the tapered effect is a nice classic look. Don''t forget you could go with tapered baguettes or trilliant sidestones for a slightly edgier look. Platinum prongs with a yellow gold shank will be just fine.
