Hi everyone, first post here!

I have a setting picked out already, but I'm having a tough time figuring out what colour grade i should be looking for. The setting in question is a rose gold version of this Tacori: http://www.tacori.com/engagement/ht254715cu6.html

One of my priorities is to keep center diamond not too warm - but i'm really not sure how much i should value the grade considering the setting (rose, and contrast with the pave). I'm looking around 1ct (you can thank Tacori for eating up my budget ;)), so the question of if i go over or under depends on where i go with the colour.

This F 0.9ct is what i'm considering right now: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.90-carat-f-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-276309.. Is it a waste to go with something as high as an F here? If so, how low do you think i should consider going?

Thanks!

I certainly would go with G or H and I think I color is possible. I would not pay the premium for F when the others in ideal cut will face up so white.

^I agree.

If you felt like you needed to go high color, id actually go with this one . Higher color which i admit does look popping white in rose gold, will face up to your eyes the same size as that JA stone, good old gold sells Tacori so you don't have to worry about getting the stone and setting from different places, and they would give you a discount on the setting, i believe, as it says on their website..

**Purchase a setting valued at $2500 or more with us and receive a 3% discount

on your diamond with a maximum amount of $750 off.

I'd consider this:

http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-own-diamond-ring?forceStep=DIAMONDS_STEP&track=NavEngStartWithDia#diamonds_forceStep=DIAMONDS_STEP|builder=BYOR|pid=LD03987376

This could definitely work, too:

Some people dislike BN because they're drop shippers - in that they don't hold the diamonds they're selling in house (except for their Signature cuts), so they basically work as a middle man and don't lay eyes on the diamond they ship you. However, you have to remember that they've been around for many years now, they're hugely popular and successful, have, in general, a very satisfied customer base, and a rock solid 30 day return policy, so if you're not happy, you can return the stone, no questions asked. You can also ask them about the stone, and they will contact the person holding it for you to get extra information. I've worked with them many times, and on more than one occasion they've said to me "We spoke to the person holding the diamond - they described it as so-so / or / uninspiring / or / not what I think you're looking for." They've also hunted down some great, eye clean SI2's for me, which were fabulous deals. A little communication and effort goes a long way. Give them your parameters, tell them what you want, and let them do the work.

And if it looks great to YOUR eye, what else matters, really? And if it isn't all you hope for - return it.

So long as you're operating within certain parameters for your size, cut, polish, symmetry, table size, depth, crown and pavilion angles, you're going to get something which is, at very least, beautiful. And it would be nice to crack that 1ct barrier. :) Good luck!

ETA I think H is your sweet spot. You won't see 'tint', which is generally considered to kick in around I color, but it's not so white that it's wasted with your rose gold setting. The stone in my avatar is an H color, if that's any help.

so admittedly i am a low color lover. And i agree that an H will still look nice and not tinted in a rose gold setting. But i think colorless stones are my favorite in rose gold, they just seem to really "pop", more so, IMHO that other metals.

Heres a good example

Niel -

I understand what you're saying, and I love warmer stones also.

But i think, given the F colored stone the OP first posted, that he's looking for a white effect, not a warm, tinted or colored one - especially since he seemed hesitant about dropping down a color grade or two. This didn't sound, to me, like someone seeking a warm effect.

But yes, in general - and especially in yellow or rose gold - i love warm stones!

ETA …aaaand I just re-read your post! You were saying you *liked* whiter colored stones in rose gold. I had that butt-backwards, I'm sorry! Just btw, the ring you linked to has H colored stones, and I think the effect is great. I could be wrong on this, but I *think* that setting came up for sale on DB recently. I could be wrong, but I *think* so. If I had anything to put in it, I would have loved to have bought it - it's a great setting!

Ha! Yeah they are hs. So goes to show an h will be white. But still my point is a think a colorless stone in a rose gold setting can be quite striking. And if I had to choose between an F That was going to cost me more money and trouble by having it set by another vendor- or a d that is just about the same size is go d. Plus like I said I think there's a setting discount
