Also, is there any reason to stay away from Blue Nile? I''ve read about good experiences with them on this forum... I was wondering though, does anyone know if they offer ideal scope or 10x-40x pictures of the diamonds upon request? To be honest... I also like their Bill me later plan they have... at 23 I think it''d be more prudent to make a contribution to my Roth than to spend it all just before the cut off

No, and this is why many PSers are not fond of them.

As to insurance, I pay $130 per annum for no deductable on a $10k value. It is not that expensive, and it cover loss or damage. Replacement with like kind and quality, which means a diamond matching my cert. Never heard of a policy requiring recutting. Call Jewelers Mutual as well, you can get individual policies for just the ring separate from your home insurance.

Bear in mind we can't tell you definitely whether a particular diamond will be a great stone or not without at least Idealscope images which BN don't provide. But if it was me and I wanted to ' buy blind' a round diamond without images, I would go with the first stone. They do have a 30 day return policy in case you weren't happy so plenty of time to look for yourself.

Don''t these both have Ideal scope photos on he GCAL certificate or is that something different?

GCAL use a technique known as photomicrograph, personally I don't find these images easy to interpret or read.

Oh I see, fair enough... May I ask why you prefer the 1.53 to the 1.54? I thought the picture showing the cut was slightly better for the 1.54 but like you said it isn''t an ideal scope... the 1.53 is a VS1... but the 1.54 is an h&a.

Am I correct in the feeling that you''re not too fond of either?

Actually you are incorrect in thinking I am not enthusiastic concerning these diamonds, I have to be cautious in my comments particularly when working without clear and detailed images as there is no way to properly judge any diamond without.

And of course you may ask why I have a preference! I prefer the first diamond as to me it has a ' safer' crown and pavilion angle combo, the second could be fine but there is a small possibility of light leakage depending on the rounding of these angles, overall cutting precision etc and without an idealscope image, no way to know if this is or isn't the case. Also without clear and detailed images there is no way to tell if a diamond is in fact hearts and arrows and without proper images to show the overall cutting precision responsible for hearts and arrows patterning, I am always sceptical of " hearts and arrows" claims.

As for insurance, if you are already a USAA member, ou can get a Valuable Personal Property policy for fairly cheap. We insure $31k worth of jewelry for $224 per year.

Thank you guys so much... Now that I actually have learned what dimensions and qualities to look for in a diamond, I have found one and bought one online
