Hey all, I am about to pop the question and have decided to get an Asscher Diamond for my future fiance/wife.

I have a budget of $6,000. I would like to know what I should look out for in the Asscher diamonds.

I am looking to get at least 1 carat.

I am in Westchester County, New York.

thanks.

I bought a really nice asscher then later bought an Octavia asscher.
Picking a good asscher is very difficult (as you are about to learn), but picking a good Octavia is effortless because they're ALL good, since it is a branded cut so each one fits the tight cut specs.

The Octavia is a stunning STUNNING diamond.
It is so full of life and sparkle you won't believe your eyes.
Here is an Octavia just under $6000.

Here is a pic of both my asscher, on top, and the Octavia underneath it.
Octavia must look large for its weight because the Octavia below is 1.34 ct, and the regular asscher above it is 2.26 ct.

The asscher also came from the same vendor, Good Old Gold.
They are known for sourcing well-cut asschers.

Thank you. I wasn't aware of the Octavia Asscher.

They both look STUNNING, but I like the look more of the Asscher.

I have read a few articles that state to get a smaller Asscher with high Clarity and Color.

I cannot argue with preference.
But I will relate my personal experience.
I have worn that 2.26 asscher for a few years now and while it is an exceptionally well-cut asscher if I could do it again I'd go for an Octavia if they had one over 2 ct.
The Octavia's light performance live is just unbelievably unbelievable!

Last weekend my SO was in a high end jeweler who specializes in antique cut diamonds.
They went absolutely berserk over the Octavia's fire, scintillation, brightness and contrasts.
The owner called over all the employees and other customers were drooling over it.

BTW here is the reason to go up in clarity and color with an Asscher.
Asscher, like the emerald cut has large open facets.
Those large facets expose body color and inclusions more so than other cuts which have smaller facets.
That means if you don't want to see body color or inclusions you must bump up the clarity and color.

In a side view asschers are deeper and bulkier than other cuts to they face up small for their weight.
To enjoy the asscher's famous 3D hall of mirrors effect I really would not go far under one carat unless you have eagle eyes.

neneloco,

Before you decide on the generic asscher over the octavia for sure, check out this video comparing the two (in this case, two to one):

ETA: They're all great performers, so this video might help you decide which you prefer with more info than just a photo.

i just looked at video from diamondinfoman on youtube.

The Octavia looks awesome and it will be in consideration.

I would try to stick to Vs2 and above on Clarity and F-G for Color to be safe. If you can see them in person then you can broaden your criteria to H color. I would be okay with an H asscher personally, but I don't know how sensitive to color you or your lady are.

GOG is based in Long Island right? I work in Long Island so I will be checking this diamond out.

Thanks guys for making me aware of this Octavia cut.

The Clarity I was thinking of going VS2 or higher as the imperfections are pretty easily seen from what I have seen on james allen's site.

However, I am leaning more towards the Octavia as it is just something out of this world and very unique looking.

thanks for the links...i think I am oficially on the Octavia Bandwagon...hopefully I can connect with GOG for the one they have in my price range.

If you're serious, you could reserve it on their website.
You are under no obligation to buy it.

Sometimes here on PS when there is a discussion about a nice diamond some lurker will buy it and the original poster loses out. ;(
Octavias are rare and there are a zillion eyeballs lurking here.

I know I must sound like a shill for GOG but I'm just a diamond lover.
I've been here for 5 years learning, loving, collecting and photographing my sparklies.
I'm just a passionate Octav-ite spreading the love. =)
I know a good thing when I see it.
