Does anyone know of any antique-style settings for an oval stone? I have a tanzanite that has sentimental value (given to me on my 16th b-day) that is set into a pendant. There was a diamond w/it and the diamond fell out and I''ve been thinking that instead of replacing the diamond, I''d rather put the stone into a RHR.

I''d like white gold and under $500. Any ideas? Most of the settings I see are for round stones so I''m not sure where to look.

This one site has a been getting tossed around a bit lately.
www.adwar.com

Not very easy to navigate, but quality stuff at decent prices.

Some jewelers prefer not to use your stones because of the liability, but search around for a setting you like and ask your local jewelry or stick browse around for one of the Pricescope favorite jewelers and try contacting them.

You bet! If you want inexpensive settings that are replicas taken from actual olod estate pieces try this site: http://www.filigreerings.com/catalog.php?page=ov

I''ve attached a picture of one these settings holding a round stone. If you wan it to look like the real deal, these settings aren''t bad.

Is that from the same person who does http://www.jewelryrings.com?

velouriaL,
No, although the jewelryrings.com site may get the settings from the fellow on the filigreerings.com site. As far as I know the filigreerings.com site is a descriptive site done so that members of the trade can see what is available from its owner, who manufactures these pieces and does not get involved in trying to retail them one at a time. Lots of cool settings though and very inexpensive, as I don''t think that there''s a setting there that costs over $200 with most being much lower, (that''s for 14K gold, platinum is much more expensive).

How sizable are these rings?
Iv been looking at them but was wondering if they are too thin to go up to the size 9 range.

strmrdr,
Most of these settings are quite light in weight and sizing to a size 9 would be probably end up causing the back of the ring shank to be rather weak and easily worn out. The weights are noted on that site and the heavier rings would probably work O.K.
