I have 4 BB tourmalines namely a 9.8mm green/blue, a 8.9mm pink, a 8.2mm yellow and a 6.5mm blue/green.
I feel that if I set them separately into 4 rings, they are really gonna to cost me a fortune...

So do you think it will be a good idea to set them together into a pendant?
Too luxury? Or will they look cheap together, Like some over colorful CZ?
Please kindly share your thoughts~~

Thank you all~~ :naughty: :naughty:

And here is another combination I'm considering to make
They are 2 auctions I won from Tan's Ebay: 1 spinel + 2 tsav.
They didn't cost too much, so again I'd like to save some setting expense by squeezing more gems into one piece...

Do you think such color combination will look good on hand?
I don't have any design on my mind right now, so if you've ever seen anything similar, good or bad, please talk me in or out ;)

Thank you~~!!

Hi,

I really like that color combo. I think you need a good designer, who can visualize them together or one of our PS friends. But I definitely think they will work with an inspired design. When I see them together I think of spring, they are a light hearted and joyous combination. Yes, I definitely think they will work together! I see them in some Elven piece of jewelry, straight out of Tolkien's tales (I don't know if that is you at all, but your wonderful stones get my imagination all fired up, lol)

Normally I'm not a fan of multi coloured stone rings but I do actually own one! It is much more of a cocktail look than a sophisticated one but I think your BB stones could end up looking similar? This is mine for you to see for yourself if you think it's something you'd wear. This has citrine, amethyst, garnet and peridot set in white gold and I get a lot of compliments when I wear it BUT I think people assume it's costume jewellery!

The top stones remind me of summer too. Light & happy & they go well together. They might look great in a bracelet, like this one from Janish on Etsy:

YES to JewelFreak's idea ~ I LOVE that cuff!!!!!!!

I particularly love the spinel and tsav idea for a ring !
I would wear that one if simply bezel set...

Re: the BB stones *(and they must sparkle like MAD!!!)....
Did you put all those stones on your finger at once?
Given the size of the stones, That's a lot of coverage, to me anyway.....

I love the spring-like tones of those four stones, the cuts and shape tie them together so well. I think a pendant or ring would look lovely. My idea would be something like LD's ring, for a pendant, bezeled, maybe with a "frame" of some sort around them in a different shape..square, triangle, oblong, or a larger circle if you want to keep a round theme as well.

Laura

I would hold off and get up to 15 more of them and make a necklace

I do like the combination of colors together, but all of those are stones of significant size. If you combined them into a pendant, it would certainly make a striking piece, but the sheer size might limit the number of times and occasions you could wear it. You'd have to be very, very careful with the design.

The cuff JewelFreak posted is a variation on one I had commissioned from Janish, the original thread can be found herehttps://www.pricescope.com/communit...silver-cuff-w-danas-montana-sapphires.149879/. The Montana sapphires in the cuff I had Jill design are small, but if you wanted to use those stones in a similar piece I think it would be gorgeous! You could use the blue/green tourmaline as the center stone. However, you'd need to pick up one more BB round to keep things balanced. The nice thing about Jill's work is that she is completely open to variations in finish and detail. I ended up choosing a hammered finish, but her brushed finish is very elegant, too.

Lovely stones, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide to do with them.

VL..funny, I appreciate your sense of humor!

I was actually thinking that an odd number would be more visually pleasing than an even number, so "enable, enable".

Laura

Another idea..a "Y" necklace with one stone at the branch of the "Y", and the other three dangling below on different length chains, or three stones on one chain, spaced a bit apart.

I had not thought about the sizes...it would definitely be a substantial piece...and palladium or silver may be more cost effective if that is the case and you don't mind different metals than gold.

I do love the "easter egg" colors, though.

I think these four with look great in a graduating line pendant with stones going from smallest to largest. To cut costs, you could set them in silver. I like pastels together, and I want to do a combo cluster ring with various pastel colored diamonds I own, so don't think this is a crazy idea at all.

I like this color combo, but just wondering if the side stones aren't a bit too large for the center stone. If you do decide to set it, I don't think the sides take away from the center stone because the color on the spinel stands out, and the tsavorites are a lighter mintier color.

Wow, babydoll, that's an enviable collection of stones - LOVE Barry's cutting!

I completely understand wanting economical settings, but frankly, all 4 together would be awfully busy. Besides, each of those stones is a work of art and deserves its own spotlight. However, I could definitely see 2 together, and I like the Y-necklace idea that Largosmom posted. I'd put the smaller green tourm at the top and dangle either the yellow or blue below.

I wouldn't feel pressured to set all of them soon - I have gems that have been sitting in my collection for awhile, but I'd rather wait until I find something I really like. Plus, I actually like having loose stones to play with.

Y - necklace idea - brilliant! In silver would be gorgeous...so gorgeous in fact that I would be very, very envious :naughty:

It might be pretty big, but I can see the blue, pink, and green stones in a graduated 3-stone pendant, and the yellow one in a ring. I don't see all 4 together.

As for the spinel, I like it with green, but I don't like the proportions. I'd prefer the trillions to be smaller.

I can see the 4 round stones set together into a single necklace (not just pendant), with the right design. It will require some artistic thinking to have them flow together in order to get the different sizes (and large too!) to fit in. However, done right, it will be spectacular!

As for the spinel and green trilliant combo, are you comfortable with such a large ring? Some people like the center stone to stand out and so will select smaller sidestones while others prefer a big presence on the hand and select a 3 stone where the dimensions are closer to each other. This is more of a personal preference and the look you aim to achieve.

Hey dears~ Thank you so much for you opinions and pictures!!
I just got around from a crazy working week and can now sit down to digest your replies.

mariedtiger, thank you for the compliment!! You are right, I'm in badly need of a good designer, but sadly I don't have access to one... I'm in China btw.

LD, wow, nice multi coloured ring, thank you for the inspiration. I guess my stones are too large for my hands...;)

JewelFreak, bracelet is a really good idea. However It is very difficult for me to find a vendor who makes silver bracelet with great handcraft. In China, we have a lot of great silver making masters, who make silver bracelet with 99% pure silver. But they are just not good at setting I guess...

Shiney, thank you! yeah, they are huge on my hand ;)

Laura, I found something just like what you descripbed:

VapidLapid, Ha...you are funny ;)

Aoife, thank you! I really like the details in the finishing

Laura, I'm a little lost with the Y necklace idea, could you maybe help to share a picture or something? I cannot visualize that... ;(

cellentani, exactly, I've been worrying about them being to busy together. So I also considered 2-2 combo, what do you guys think?
I kind of think the yellow and the green compliments each other
How about these 2 for a ring? but in what design...haunted again

But the pink and the green/blue, not so sure ;p

A bracelet would be quite lovely a bit larger on one side than on the other. The stones are quite large but I surely love the combination together.

I think you can be your own designer. Try drawing simple shapes and setting the stones onto them and see what looks good to your eye. I use colored pencils and simple shapes to play with ideas.

TL, I have the same concern about the size.
Do you think once they are set and the 2 side stone sit a little bit lower than the center stone, it will help to balance the size?

I agree with you that If only 1 of the 4 stones are to be set into a ring, it will be yellow.

I really don't have confidence in the size
I'm in the hope that the proportion will look better if correctly set
what do you think?

You know, seeing those stones on your hand, I think each one deserves its own setting. And they are all impressive in size. If it were me (and I wish it were, they are so pretty!) I would probably set them individually. If cost is a consideration (isn't it always!) I'd do one at a time in a very simple setting. Sometimes a well cut stone with good color is enough all by itself.

I'm not keen on the pink/green combination, to me it looks ok but there is something not quite right about it yet the stones themselves look really nice.

I agree with Aoife, I think you should set them individually, they look so good that way!
