I''m thinking of giving my aunt and uncle a gift certificate for a spa experience, since they''ve been through a lot this year (both had cancer, one had to go through chemo). The one spa I found is the Elizabeth Arden Red Door in Aventura/Ft. Lauderdale. I''m always so skeptical of spas - so if anyone has an opinion about these spas in general let me know.

Or, any other ideas? We gave them a gift certificate for a restaurant/dinner last year, so I''d like to do something different.

any ideas?

this isn't a spa recommendation, but if you do have to go the restaurant route again, maybe a gift card for a fondue place. my sister went to one, i think it is called "the melting pot", for her wedding anniversary, and she loved it! as far as a spa, do you know if they will be comfortable going to a spa? i would love to send my mother to a spa, but i know she would NEVER go for a massage or even a pedicure! some people don't like to be undressed(even though you ARE covered) in front of strangers or be touched by strangers.

I love getting pampered so something like that would be perfect for me.

But since you asked for other ideas I don''t know what your budget (or how fit they are after all this) is but what about possibly a weekend away or a gift card to their fave restaurant and a show - a night on the town so to speak.

Hubby and I went to The Melting Pot and it was really fun! Otherwise, I think the spa sounds nice if you know they are into that sort of thing.

what about a weekend trip to a Bed and Breakfest?

In Chicago, a few years back, I worked for a salon called Mario Tricoci as a hairstylist, this salon was owned by EA Red Door...the spa is wonderful and the staff is highly trained not only in techniques, but also in customer service and care. Your friends will be spoiled by them, I promise.

I hope you go towards the spa day...it will be a special day for two people who sound like they need it!!! What a wonderful friend you are...

That''s a great spa! I would also recommend the spa at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, especially on a Sunday (because they have a great brunch!)

I got my mom a certificate for a massage at a day spa before and she traded it in for a manicure b/c she just wasn''t comfortable. Some people are like that...me personally...I''d love a massage.

We were trying to think of gift ideas for my Boyfriend''s brother and his girlfriend. We decided on a date night/movie gift basket. We got movie ticket vouchers, a gift card to a restaurant, some candy and popcorn, some nice hot chocolate mugs and some gourmet hot chocolate in different flavors. We also got a movie on DVD we knew they wanted and are going to put it all in a nice gift basket for them, that way they can do a date/movie night in and out. Just a thought.

I''ve done this before, too. For movie buffs or people with kids that can''t get out a lot on their own, this is ideal!

My husband and I went to the Red Door Spa before our wedding. It was amazing. Even my husband, who is not a spa guy, loved it. That sounds like a great gift to me.

thank you guys for all the wonderful ideas and for reassuring me that the Red Door Spa is a good gift...and thank you Fiery for the ADDITIONAL idea of the hotel at the Biltmore...I like that because I can totally picture them sticking around for dinner afterwards or something...
