This is my first purchase from Dana ( but I know I'll purchase from him again). I've had this for a while and hope to set in in a few months. It's 2.11 carats, 8.1x6.6 .It came with these two little guys but I feel the color may be too different to use them with the larger stone. So they may wind up as earrings or earring charms. I've gone back and forth a few times in my head between white and yellow gold but can't decide. I guess I need some inspiration. It is going to have to be a budget setting.

With smaller stones.

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

It looks very pretty and yellow. I love the intensity of the little guys, but agree that they don't look to be a great match as they make the big guy look a bit washed out in comparison. I SO wish I had the talent to advise you on the setting, but suffice it to say with those stones, you can't go wrong. :))

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

Isn't he just the best? I mean every lapidary I've bought from has something a little special and wonderful but he's just so nice. (I swear I'm not brown nosing)

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

athenaworth, are you anthropomorphisizing the yellow sapphire and then kissing-up to it? If so, I approve.

I love the color on this stone, innerkitten! I threw out my two-tone low carat yellow gold idea in another thread, but I'll toss it out here too...Also, it might have the benefit of a lower price-tag...

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

Thanks Minousbijoux!

Athenaworth, I know exactly what you mean :)

Corundum, I'm going to have to look up your two tone idea!

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

This stone is more goldeny-orange then yours, and the gold is very low carat, but it gives you some idea of what I'm getting at. A paler (14ct) yellow gold will not compete with your stone, but it also will also back up the color.

I'll be interested to see how you set it!

My cats always tell me I'm the best anthropomorphizer they've ever met!

Are there two cats in that photo?

Ah I see what you mean. Yes that could be a cost saving option :) I do like the idea of yellow gold with a yellow stone. I like that setting BTW.

LOL! that made my day, athenaworth!

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

Sorry, IK, quick threadjack: Corundum, did you ever find your stone? Is that the finished ring in your photo? Did I miss a thread where you showed us the completed ring? Wow, if so, I feel as if I'm asleep at the wheel :o

For what its worth, IK, I too like the pale 14k yellow with your stones. Did you see Jereni's thread about setting her yellow grossular? I would not have thought about setting yellow stone in yellow because I would think the contrast of the white would really make the yellow well, yellower, but the yellow gold really does warm it up. You chose really well with those stones. Did you say that he sold them as a set?

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

Gorgeous piece really!

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

The little guys, IK, should make super earrings -- I'll be happy to babysit them for you any time. And I second, or third, the idea of low carat yg for a ring -- kind of emphasizes the warmth of that yellow. Corundum, I LOVE your setting! Did I miss a thread about it earlier? I'd like to see more pics!

IK - another one here who thinks the world of Dana! Isn't he wonderful to work with? Yep I'm a fan too!

Interestingly Jereni is having the same thought process with her new yellow stone! Have you seen her thread? I know in your photos the two little guys are more saturated than your central stone BUT how noticeable is this IRL? The reason I ask is because I've just posted a photo in Jereni's thread of a yellow oval diamond I have that has yellow sides. They're separated by a yellow and white halo. IRL the pear sides are probably more saturated than my central stone so I just wondered if you wanted to use the little guys, if this might work for you also?

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

I haven't read the whole yellow garnet post but I'm going to right now.

Hi Minou :wavey:

I'm still looking for my perfect yellow sapphire :( The search has been full of ups and downs. I'm gonna give it another, maybe, two months (I'll let tucson come and go) and then I'm gonna switch stones.

Sooo the photo above is not my stone. Its a photo from the ering thread, and I think its a citrine. BUT when if/when I find my yellow sapphire, I think I will do the low-carat yellow gold for the two-tone look, which is my I'm such a staunch advocate of it!

I agree about low carat yellow gold. I think it's vastly underated.

I didn't realize you were still without a stone.

I just saw the photo of your ring. It's gorgeous! I like the gold bezel.

When my sapphire is next to the small sapphires the difference is most obvious. The smaller pair is just more golden. It could be done but I think I would be able to see the difference.

Sadly, yes. But I am buoyed when I see nice yellow sapphires on this forum--it gives me hope that there are more out there! So thanks for posting.

Well if the difference is quite noticeable then even with a yellow basket on the central stone it may still not be enough. That's a shame. Do you have any other side stones that you could put with it?

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

Hi innerkitten! I usually have lots of ideas for settings but as you probably saw, up until today was rather stumped with my own yellow stone project :)

I love your stone! Are you thinking halo or something simpler? Trying to think of good oval settings I've seen recently...

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

Oh, here's an idea. I saw this ring recently and became obsessed but it occurs to me a slightly different take on it might be fun with your stone.

Now - envision this without the pave, just two metals colors - white gold and yellow gold weaving in and out of each other, with your sapphire set sideways in the middle. Or two tone yellow gold. Could be cool!

Edited to add: Or WITH the pave, but I was just thinking of how you said it would need to be a budget setting.

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

Jereni, That is very pretty. I'm certainly not against diamond accents if I can afford them. But I just don't know yet. I will be following your thread to see what you do with your yellow stone :)

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

As it's starting to get dark here the stones look like they match more because the larger one looks more golden in the dimmer light. Maybe it could work.
Here is the three of them with an 18k shank.

And with 14k
ETA: I'm not trying to advertise riogrande BTW, it just wound up in the photo!

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

But really the color looks more like this. Yellow with some gold tones.

I wish. All the small diamonds I owned have been used in past projects. The only possible side stones I have are all colored stones, but I don't want too much color for this project.

Re: Need some setting ideas for yellow Mastercutgems sapphir

How accurate is the 18K gold picture? If it is, then I don't see why all 3 stones cannot be set together in a single ring. It also looks much nicer (warmer without browning out) next to a yellow metal compared to the white metal.
