DJ, here is jazmine's ring to give you a hint of a profile of E-W set for similar mounting, though your stone would not be that long.

ETA: Duh i am slow today, you know everything already and more...

I know exactly what you mean Mrs. S. I''m trying to be reasoned in my search and try a bunch of different styles before I make up my mind (look at what happend just today--I went from "no halo" to "wow, look at this halo!"). I''m not loving not having my ring to wear though...

just an idea where your pears would go

My oval is in a haol and I love it!! If I ever get some good photos, I''ll post them!

Knowing The Demon he''d be looking to upgrade those tiny little pears in no time at all! He''d be shooting for a ruby studded collar and sapphires on his leash too!

I went to vist Dimend Scaasi at lunch.

...
Remember how I said that I didn''t want a halo... well,[...] it would look different with my oval, but I don''t think the halo is overwhelming.

So... Opinions? Suggestions?

Opinion: Wow!

Suggestion: Go for it!

Easy enough, right ?

I am quite sure the pears will make very cute earrings. Perhaps in settings somewhat matched to the ring (in diamond frames, that is)

OK, so my resetting adventure may have just taken an ugly turn for the strange... I might be a little "out of love" with my diamond.

Ever since I got it I noticed an odd "flatness" on the ends, which I've observed in some other ovals too. It is more apparent in some light than in others. Today I was out looking for setting ideas and ended up talking to a jeweler about it. He called it "windowing" but I didn't get a good understanding of what it really is or what causes it (but he didn't make it sound like a *good* thing--LOL!).

I'm going to start a new thread to ask about the windowing before I get TOO upset.

Let's just say that Dee Jay is NOT happy right now. Ug.

Oh, I''m so sorry.

Off tangent, but I couldn't help but think of your ring and the half moon option when I saw this Beaudry ring from his ad.

Moon - I feel like such a spaz over this whole thing. I bet everyone is thinking "you have a 3 ct diamond--just shut up and enjoy it"!

And Diamond Quester, thanks for posting that ring! It reminds of the one that I liked so much yesterday at Dimend Scaasi (and maybe that setting would help my "windowing" problem).

I vote for setting it by itself in as high a mounting as possible. A 3 carat stone doesn''t really need any little helpers around it.

OK, so now I''m starting to think I''m crazy.

I was just on the phone with Isaac at Signed Pieces (this has definitely been my week for conversations with charming men named Isaac!) and he said based on the numbers my stone sounds "georgous."

Maybe I''m making too much of this thing. In most light the diamond is fine. It''s only in certain circumstances that I notice what I''m starting to think of as MY problem.

So a question for you all: Do you love you diamond in ALL situations or is there some lighting that you think doesn''t flatter your stone?

I have an oval, too and some light makes it look downright yucky. Sometimes I see a bowtie or leakage at the ends. Sometimes the color looks - dare I say - yellow...and it''s an H. 99.9999999% of the time it looks fantascic, though. Ovals are mysterious, yet, very interesting creatures. I love ''em! Enjoy yours!

Oh, Miranda, thank you for this message. And maybe that''s what I have -- "leakage at the ends" (sounds like a miserable medical problem, doens''t it? LOL!)

Do you have any picks or could you give me a like to your ring so I can see it?

I think that any fancy shape owner that answers YES to this question is fibbing, or should make public the ideal measurements of their stone, because they will have cracked the ever elusive ''true fancy ideal parameters!!!'' (Or they need to sample some more light conditions...) I can''t speak for rb stones, I don''t own one, and even then I suspect there may be less than ideal viewing situations. But as a pear owner, I can honestly say that no, I don''t love my stone in every single solitary lighting situation because there are definitely times that it can look slightly dark in the bowtie region. A certain odd tilt of the stone in direct sun for instance. Most of the time I love how the stone looks, and a lot of the time I am amazed by it - as I was telling sk8rjen, it can take the teeniest amount of light from a far window and throw off amazing glow from within. Don''t sweat the small stuff.

Ewwww..Leaky end!

I'll try to post a link...my ring I hope it works!

ETA: The link doesn't work...Mine never do! If you click on my avatar and then click on my topics you'll see one for my ring!

Miranda -- what a ring! I didn''t realize it was yours that I was drooling over when you posted those photos! And your setting kind of reminds me of the one I like at Dimend Scaasi.

And FireGoddess, thanks for putting us "fancies" into perspective. Maybe what I''ve been trying to do is achieve the perfect brilliance of a round stone with an oval. Ain''t gonna happen!

I have a call in to my jewler* who is going to take a look at my stone some time next week when our schedules coordinate. If he tells me to get over it, well, I trust his opinion enough to do it. But if he says we need to look for a new stone... sigh... not sure I would really be looking forward to that all over again so soon.

(*I didn''t get this stone from my regular jeweler and now I am kicking myself--HARD!--over the whole thing. But what''s done is done and I''ll just move forward in the best possible way.)

Dee Jay,

Gosh, I was thinking your oval was so pretty that I need one for my next project! Lol!

I think I am in love with Dimend Scaasi! I love that halo setting you posted and I am not really a halo person!

But I would also love your current stones reset in a simple tiffany-style setting that is in the correct proportions. I like the pears better than the half-moons. I think the half moons take away from the center stone. I also would not personally set a stone that large east-west on small fingers.

Dee, both the diamond scaasi and the beaudry are AMAZING! Such blingtastic choices...I also love the half moons in a more classic setting. Honestly, I do not think you can go wrong!!!
