Some of you probably read my previous post about my switch to a new solitaire setting. I got it and adore it. It is stunning. The E / VS1 diamond is blinding. I am so happy with my choice.

I think the ring is too small though.

I like to remove my rings for exercising and cleaning etc, anything rough with my hands.
My knuckle is already so torn up and raw from just a few times of taking it on and off. It is quite swollen and inflamed. Granted, it fits fine once it is over my knuckle, but it is a struggle to get the ring on and off.

The jeweler told me I was a 6.75 ring size. I always thought I was bigger. In a previous engagement several years , I thought the ring was 7.25. I know I had no problems like this.

So, do I get it resized? This makes me nervous. I have only had it 2 days. I do not want the setting messed up or the metal to be come more thin.

or do I ask them to order me a new setting in the bigger size?

They have a 30 day return/exchange policy. But I am the customer who was just in there and returned a $10,000 ring due to setting problems and picked a new centerstone and band. I was in that store instecting stones as asking questions like everyday for two weeks. I am sure they hate me, but they should love me because the new ring ended up costing $1600 more! So all in all finace dropped over $12,000 with tax and stuff.
I personally think I shoudl get a new band from them for that cost.

I just feel like the bitchy bridezilla customer. I dunno. The ring is quite thin already on the underside, I am nervous it would become too thin and I do not want the band to look thinner from the top or side view
What are your thoughts? Resize or return?

Thanks

~Julie

If you bought the ring there, they should size it appropriately. When I got my e-ring, it needed to be sized (jeweler's mistake), polished because there was a rough spot digging into me, a prong fixed - and these are all things that were my jeweler's responsibility to take care of. It doesn't matter the price of what you returned or exchanged - you are not being a bridezilla! Your ring should fit.

For fitting - your ring should not be able to just slip off, but you should be able to remove it without pain! Also - are you in an area where it's colder this time of year? Right now all of my rings are loose because it's so cold, but in summer, they will be tight. Your 7.25 is probably spot on.

ETA: If your jeweler knows what she or he is doing, the width of the shank should not change whatsoever. They add gold or plat to it.

Congratulations on a beautiful E VS1. Just take the ring back and have it resized. It''s too small for you. You won''t be able to tell where they resized it afterwards (in all likelihood).

Please come back with pictures!

take it back to be resized. You should have EXACTLY what you want. Who cares what those people think of you!? If they give you what you want, maybe you''ll be back for a wedding band/anniversary presents in the future! Good luck and post pics!

Just do what you want without worrying about what they think about you! They already made a lot of money from you, it''s not like you were wasting their time!

Resizing is no big deal. Just do that, not order a whole new setting!

Absolutely have it resized. The jeweler would probably be disappointed if you had this problem and didn''t let them fix it for you.

Any pics of your new ring?

My knuckle is already so torn up and raw from just a few times of taking it on and off. It is quite swollen and inflamed. Granted, it fits fine once it is over my knuckle, but it is a struggle to get the ring on and off.

You may want to think about getting a special shank that will allow the lower half of the ring to open for putting the ring on without scraping your knuckle. I''ve forgotten the name but I''m thinking it''s called a Surefit. What will be done is the lower half of your shank is removed, and the specialty shank installed. It has a hing that opens to allow the ring to go over the knuckle, and you close the latch once it is over the knuckle. I''ve attached an image I found on the net of something similar.

The other option is to have it sized up to a 7.25, which I have a feeling will fit great in the warm months, but I''m concerned you may have an issue with the ring spinning in the cold months. Sizing balls can prevent that though, and still allow the ring to fit over the knuckle.

Congratulations on picking out a stone you love!

busy work week and no time to post.

Well, I opted to have it resized up to 7.25 and it fits perfectly. A little loose when on, but I actually like my rings with a little room. Since the diamond is in a cathederal setting it sits high ( I love it) and can swing around, but I am getting used to it and it will be fine. I have not been annoyed by it and it is only when my hands are ferezing.

Importantly, my finger callus is healing, but my dr. told me it probably would never entirely go away

we''ll see. It is not that bad.

My finace took some fabulous pics of the ring and has not forwarded them to me yet, so I will post in a couple days when I get them.

Thanks for the input.
