Hi My name is Doug I recently found this site and I already feel at home. I can''t help but notice that those posting in this forum seem to be as passionate about colored stones as I . I have been collecting about ten years. Spinel and garnets are my favorites. Looking foward to spending many hours discussing this subject with all of you. warmest regards Doug. P.S. this is one of my favorites. It is a garnet 2.68cts

G.K. That is a very impressive collection. I found my cc garnet at a local gem show. I could not believe the color change when I first saw it. The blue side seems to be the strongest. To my eye the color is a very teal color.

colormyworld-
Welcome and thank you for posting your gorgeous garnet!!! I L

VE seeing color change garnets with strong blue in them!!!!!!! Do you happen to remember what kind of selection the gem show had? Did it have a lot of stones similar to the one you bought? Any that were a larger carat size?
thanks!

Thanks Doug, mine actually were acquired over the Internet. I don''t see many at the shows now, but they were not uncommon about 4-5 years ago. Mine are also more of a bluish teal, but not as red as yours in incandescent light. Looking forward to seeing more of your collection.

Thanks for the compliment. The gem show was a small local affair. Just a hand full of small vendors. It was the only one of its kind. From what I have read stones of this kind are very rare. But I am no expert. I feel luckey to have found it before some one else grabbed it up.

welcome doug!

Welcome to PS CSF.

And thanks for sharing with us your lovely color change garnet.

Considering the color change, and comparing with what an equivalent Alexandrite mught fetch, it looks like it''s worth between $10,000 to $250,000.

Belle that is a spiney lobster I caught on a recent fishing trip. It was really a stroke of luck to catch one on hook and line. Just wasn''t his day. The pic is a close up of the area around its eye. Kaleigh andCave Keeper thanks for the welcome. Cave Keeper are you saying an alexandrite with a cc like my garnet would be worth 10k 250k

The market price for natural untreated Alexandrites depends on the contrast between the colors they change to depending on the lighting. If the colors are closer to each other, e.g., teal green changing to teal blue and vice versa, the price may not be that high. If the colors are very different, e.g., a medium green changing to a medium red, the price can be very high. The larger the size of an Alexandrite stone, the higher the price.

As for your color change garnet, the colors it has makes it look like a sapphire when it''s blue and a ruby when it''s red. I would say that having these two colors to change to makes your color change garnet extremely desirable. I am sure some people will be willing to stack cash up to their noses for the bragging rights of owning such a stone that can look like a ruby one moment and a sapphire the next. So make sure you do get a very good price if you ever let it go, unless it''s not a natural.

Thank you CK for the info. I have taken the cc garnet to a gemologist I know and he was quite impressed. We did not talk about value and I had no idea it could be so much!!!!! The cut is not that good. and it has a very big table. There are some inclusions in the stone. My gemologist friend said they were nothing to worry about. The stone is very blue in the photo but to my eye it is a bright teal color.

Welcome Doug!!
Always nice to see quality stones as yours, looking forward to more posts. Colour change stones are my favourite.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome!
