Beautiful necklace! I happen to love prasiolite/green quartz/green amethyst, so I''d keep it as is. But I also think a purple amethyst would look great in it.

Oh yum! very gorgeous! I''m admitedly not a big fan of rubies. But, A red spinel would look fabulous in that setting.

Also, have you looked at possibly a red zircon?

Oh my goodness! That is gorgeous! I''d go with a rich/deep colored stone for that necklace. Red sounds divine!!

Any vivid or highly saturated stone is going to pop in that setting. If you are patient, the right stone can be found, if not, then I suggest going with a custom cutter route to get the exact dimensions.

Thanks guys! Yes, I''m really liking the vivid red idea and will be exploring all red stones. I''m not in any hurry so hopefull the perfect stone will come along and if not then I''ll have one cut.

MP, yes, his thinking is to shatter the stone that''s currently in there and he says he can do it without damaging the bezel.

Catmom...you find the most amazing jewelry!!! I think a red gem will look amazing in there

A spinel would be at the top end of your price range, but another nice option. I like the idea of a garnet too.

Beautiful necklace! Reminds me of the Edwardian period.

Catmom - Love, love, love that setting. And, I love the idea of a red pendant. A gorgeous red garnet would be awesome. I love Precision Gem''s umbalites. Or, a glowing rubellite popping from the center of that piece. Wonderful idea. If you don''t have a Richard Homer stone, perhaps now is the time. He has lots of fine material to pick from.

A side note: I was working on an interesting (to me, at least) pendant, where one stone overlaps another. The bottom one was a bezel set tourmaline, the other a double prong. Well, with my luck (and my skill), I manage to slip the graver on the second stone, hitting the bezel set one at just the right angle, near a small fracture, so that I sliced a piece of it away.

I really didn''t want to redo the setting, as there were way too many things that could go wrong elsewhere on the piece. So I thought of this thread and decided that, since the stone was dead anyway, radical methods were called for. I heated up the stone and quenched it in water, splitting it apart. It came out pretty well, and I was able to save the bezel by pushing back the metal.

I don''t want to do this again, but yes, it works.

Thanks Love in Bloom! My jeweler says I have an "eye", LOL. Hubby thinks I should keep my eyes closed while in the store.

LtlFirecracker, I really think it will be some kind of a red stone. Hubby is still insisting it should be a ruby. I told him he''s nuts.

Thanks TL and Fly Girl!! FG, maybe a regular Richard H. cut. I''m not a huge fan of the concave cut myself.

Well Lady_Disdain, while I''m very sorry that you slipped and broke the stone I am glad to hear that what my jeweler wants to do can be done!

Catmom - I know what you mean. Notice that my first RH project was with Portuguese cut briolettes!

Another suggestion for red; since it''s for a pendant, why not include some of the softer, more affordable stones into your search, like a fire opal. For instance THIS one is untreated, larger than what you need (at around 11x8) and is under 200$. It''s very vibrant in color and has that bit of a glowy appearance that would look great with all the diamonds surrounding it.

I have no good suggestions for stones, though I think the ones that have already been made sound great. Just wanted to say that the hecklace is GORGEOUS!

Ooh! I second this. I have a pair of fire opal earrings and they''re amazing. I think you can also get fire opals in a cherry red color? Someone correct me if I''m wrong?

That''s all right. It''s useable now.

A spinel like this would be perfect (well, other than the fact that it won''t fit in your setting).

Boy oh boy Michelle, That is one gorgeous necklace. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It looks gorgeous on you. What a collection you have

Thanks Linda sweetie! You can come play in my jewelry box any time!!!!!!

Would this spess trapezoid fit?

That''s a beautiful necklace. Part of me feels like a vivid colored stone would just pop, and then part of me feels like a lighter colored stone like a blue topaz or aqua would look really nice and delicate and not overshadow the setting. Because I kinda feel like while the stone normally should be the focus, the necklace is so intricate and finely made that the work should be the focus. I know that''s not the normal PS reaction, but maybe somewhere in the happy middle. It reminds me of that blingtastic photo of the emerald necklace that someone took in Las Vegas.

Can''t wait to see what you come up with.

Thanks so much litebrite, that spess is gorgeous but it won''t fit.

I vote for a bluish stone because blue is a subdued color, and you don't want to detract from the gorgeous setting. I think an aqua or another minty green stone would be perfect (if you don't like the prasiolite already in there). A red or reddish stone might detract from the setting.

Wow!! Your jewelry is incredible. How about a light to medium yellow sapphire, scapolite, chrysoberyl, or grossular garnet? Do you have a pendant that matches your e-ring?
