Yes, fine rubellites do. They don''t have UV fluor either, but they seem to get even more vivid in direct sunlight IMO.Date: 3/8/2010 9:40:13 PM

This thing just glows in direct sunlight - didn''t know they did that.
You know, TL, I could swear I saw a rubellite on some vendor''s site that was listed as cuprian - are you (or anyone else) familiar with that? Would any of its color actually come from copper?Date: 3/8/2010 9:41:35 PM

Impressive colour! Who is it from, if you don''t mind my asking?
No, fine rubellites do not get their color from copper. That''s just a marketing ploy to sell a stone for more money. Only cuprians in the turquoise blue/green color get their color from copper.Date: 3/8/2010 9:45:41 PM

That''s what I thought - thanks for verifying. Maybe they just meant there was a trace of copper found? Hmmm, I''m gonna try and find that website again...Date: 3/8/2010 9:49:16 PM

I hope I don't get stomped on the head for saying this, but it looks like a nice Mahenge. How does it compare do you think? I have a Bob rubellite that I brought to a gem show that looked pretty much identical to some Mahenges I saw there.Date: 3/8/2010 9:50:41 PM

canuk-gal, I really need this as a ring, lol!
Charmy, ever since you mentioned it a few weeks ago, I have seriously been hoping you''d post pics - I''ve been watching for you but haven''t seen you around. Please do - I''d really love to see it!Date: 3/8/2010 9:50:55 PM

Lovely stone! I also got a rubelite from Bob Kast a few weeks ago (maybe over a month now). Looks very similar.

Funny thing is, I''d wondered about UV because it really looked similar to my Mahenge in sunlight. The rubellite is definitely more red, especially in incandescent light (shown here). I''ll try to get some comparison shots tomorrow with the spinel.Date: 3/8/2010 9:53:32 PM

Confession time coming up:
I just received 2 Nigerian tourmalines where one is a hot pink which can easily pass off as a pink Mahenge while the other is a true rubellite that is ruby red in all lighting. I never expected a pink tourmaline to rival the vivid saturation of a Mahenge, and these are untreated as well.
