Hi,

I first want to thank you all because as a lurker here I think I was able to buy a diamond with much more knowledge than before, to have set into a setting I purchased at a jewelry mart.

Secondly this is my first post so I apologize in advance for breaking any PS rules. Feel free to gently notify me of breaking them.

I purchased a BGD signature hearts & arrows diamond. AGS certified which is inscribed on the diamond. I asked for BGD to have it appraised at the independent appraiser who does this for them. I wanted it done before the stone is shipped to me & also because my receipt for the setting did not grade the stones so I had the entire ring done for insurance. I mentioned to them that it is for insurance purposes. My appraisal mentions color & clarity the same as on the AGS report. It mentions the BG inscription & the AGS inscription. It mentions the value, which is more than I paid for the setting & the stone. It DOES NOT mention the AGS report or the cut. I contacted BGD & was told that the mention of the AGS inscription will cover me. I have nothing but great things to say about BGD & I'm sure they believe that it is adequate & maybe it is. Please tell me if it is & if that is the case why did I need an appraisal? Wouldn't the inscription, my certificate & my receipt be adequate for insurance?

Thanks,
L

There is no mention of cut by the appraiser but the BGD signature I guess covers cut does it not?

Lesley at BGD got back to me & asked appraiser to update the appraisal. He just added "Hearts & Arrows" & highlighted "round brilliant". That is shape not cut. He still didn't mention the AGS certification. Is the mention of the AGS inscription supposed to be in place of mentioning the certification?

I have a signature BGD H&A

My appraisal says:

Laser inscribed on girdle: Brian Gavin insignia and number 0000000000000 (which is the AGS cert #)

Cut: Ideal - Hearts and Arrows

I got the appraisal done from my local jeweler, not from Brian and Lesley. Only because the Canadian insurance company required a Canadian appraisal.

Thanks Ice Explorer.

Mine was not done by Brian & Lesley but by an independent appraiser in their building. Lesley has been very helpful going back to the appraiser again tomorrow to get it updated again.

It does say Brian Gavin Hearts & Arrows & the AGS number. What it doesn't say is that it is AGS Ideal cut & it has no separate mention of the AGS certification but I suppose the inscription covers that. Maybe I am being too pedantic. It's just from what I've read in other posts about appraisals for insurance. PSers tend to say you need all of that.

I am happy to say that thanks to Lesley I have just received an updated appraisal that I think should be sufficient for the insurance company. :)
