i was wondering if anybody has any strong feelings about this diamond i am looking at....

first of all, it is from a *gasp* MALL STORE...
the thing is, this store is having a sale that will get you $200 in coupons (good from april-july, can only cover up to half the cost of total purchase, for every $300 spent). Anyways, I could use those coupons if and when me & my sig. other go shopping for our wedding bands... so i think that will be sweet. HOWEVER, i want to make sure that i am getting a good deal on the stone itself...

it''s a 1/2 ct. LEO diamond, princess cut
VS2
G
4.28 x 4.25 x 3.26 (mm)
table 2.2 mm
i''m not sure how to calculate the depth and table percentages...?
the pricetag is about $1500, but the DO is going to be there saturday, and I will have a chance to bargain down the price with him.

any opinions/advice would GREATLY appreciated! THANKS!

I am just a newbie also, but looking at the information you provided the stone seems a little ''off''. First doign a quick search on pricescope, the length/width dimensions seem small, meaning it is either deeply cut, or it is actually more like a .45 ct weight, which is possible from the mall. Also the 2.2mm table puts the percentage around 52? Is that right? That is extrememly small for a princess cut...
There is information at this site about princess cut specs here: http://www.gemappraisers.com just go to DIY cut grading and select princess, but you would need more information to compare it fully. Also, the 200 dollar coupon thing sounds sketchy, they arent taking a loss, so obvoiusly the stone is marked up well over 200 dollars to begin with...just my thoughts

I agree with the above poster. I just started looking at princess cuts myself, but that table seems way too small. I''m not sure how this effects the light return.

A friend of ours just bought a 1 carat princess cut Leo diamond from Kay Jewelers. He paid 6,000 for it but he had a coupon so it came down to 5500. I am also interested to hear the comments on this Leo Diamond. I am wondering how it will compare to ideal cut diamonds when it''s advertised to have a lot of fire and brillance.

Sorry I didn''t have any advice on if this is a good buy or not!

yeah i went and looked at the certificate. definitely a little deep for my taste.... being only half a carat and all it needs have proper dimensions. I''m going for quality before size here, after all...

thanks for your help
