I have been going through the digest for the past few days and decided to join in order to ask questions! I have learned a lot and appreciate seeing pics of beautiful rings.

I wear an unadorned yellow-gold round edge wedding band. I''d appreciate opinions as to how it would look to wear a platinum ring with this. All of my jewelry is yellow gold except for a brushed steal watch with yellow notches on the bracelet. I have my mother-in-law''s wedding set and want to use her .30 SI1 GH as a side stone in a 3-stone diamond ring.

Here are the diamonds: .30(F)/.50(GH)/.30(GH) (all SI1). Are the side stone proportions OK?

I really like the truffle setting and just can''t decide whether to go all platinum or just platinum claws with yellow gold band. I do know that I don''t want white gold.

Thanks for any input!

Once again, this is one of those questions that doesn't have a right or wrong answer. It's just a matter of taste. If you'd like all three stones to be close in size, then the proportions are fine. It will be more of an 'anniversary ring' look which is quite pretty, and will look particularly feminine in the sizes you mentioned.

As for the color, if they were regular stack rings I'd say go ahead; mix and match. But for a wedding set, I think they should be the same color. Its just more elegant and attractive. If you're really attached to your yellow gold wedding band, then I would get the truffle setting in yellow with platinum prongs. If you'd rather have your new diamond ring in all platinum, then I'd spring for a matching platinum wedding band too. You only live once...

Just my opinion of course. Best of luck!

Fuffi,

Thanks for the input!

Actually this is for our 10th wedding anniversary and that is the look that I am going for. I was worried that the side stones would somehow make the center look off. As a 1ct is beyond the budget, I figured the total of these three stones would be 1.10 and I really want to use my mother-in-law's diamond.

You're right about my wedding band -- I could get a platinum one and have a matching set!

Something else to think about.

Thanks!
