Hi this is my first post so apologies in advance for any mistakes. I have a limited knowledge of diamonds and would therefore like your opinions on this one that I've just bought. Specifically I am wondering what your thoughts are regarding the 'cut' factor. I am wondering if it is possible that the cut factor has been reviewed perhaps a bit harsh since the polish grade is only good, the symmetry and cut cannot be graded higher than very good (GIA).
So, here is the specification:
Round Brilliant
Measurements:
5.13 - 5.14 x 3.11 mm
Carat Weight
0.50 carat (didn't want this any bigger)
Color Grade
D (perhaps F would have been a better match, but this does look very nice)
Clarity Grade
SI2 (seems eye clean to me, looked very carefully at it, I assume if it were bigger it wouldn't be).
Cut Grade
Very Good (really wanted an excellent cut, however they didn't seem to have the exact specification I wanted and the diamond sparkles so much!)
Proportions:
Depth
60.5%
Table
58%
Crown Angle
35.0°
Crown Height
14.5%
Pavilion Angle
40.8°
Pavilion Depth
43.0%
Star Length
55%
Lower Half
80%
Girdle
Extremely Thin to Medium, Faceted, 3.0%
Cutlet
None
Finish:
Polish
Good (again, I believe at this carat size makes no difference, especially being SI2 anyway)
Symmetry
Very Good
Fluorescence
None
Clarity Characteristics
Feather, Crystal, Cavity
It also has an inscription on the diamond. Please correct any of my observations if incorrect and provide your input, I would be very thankful as I find the information very interesting.
Since I have only had the ring for 3 days I am guessing I could probably exchange the diamond if I wanted to, thoughts on that too would be great.
Finally, just to make it clear - any general observations on the ring would be very welcome!
Thanks for any help.
