Yes, just say "yes" to the master.

But seriously, see if Leon can find you a pair of eye clean SI1. I''m thinking VS2 is probably a whole lot easier though.

Lm came up with one more option- these are H VS1. So I guess it is decision between these and back to option #2 from original posts. Opinions??? Do they almost look the same? These are a bit larger (and more expensive, of course). I am going to try to post side by side to compare...

New option #4...

Ohh- he came up with #5 option. These look wider...

Or original option #2...

Julie,
It depends on which type of look you are looking for. Personally, I like LM''s 1st choice and I also think it looks more like the emerald cut blue sapphire ring (original) that this ring design is based on. There''s nothing wrong with LM''s 2nd choice, it''s just a different style.

You mean the original option #1? yes- that is most like what i was looking for- but the thing is those sides are REALLY expensive. LM even said he was surprised how much they cost- they are $3000 MORE than his new option #4!!!

Option #2, option 4, and option #5 are all in similar price range.

Out of these choices- i think option #4 stands out because they are the longest dimensions 7.30-3.50mm.
option #5 are 6.30x 3.65 and I do not yet know the exact dimensions of original option #2 (or #1 for that matter- but #1 are really way out of my price range so I need to forget them)

Oh dear, I''m sorry to have confused you. I need to clarify that I meant option #4 is my pick (I called it Option 1 because it was the first one on page 2). Sorry. So let me try again with Options 1 through 5

My favourite is Option #4
Option #5 is too wide for my tastes
Option #2 (from original post) is lovely, but too small for the look you are aiming for.

Thanks! Yes- option #4 has become my top choice as well (and, importantly, it is within my budget- but of course, at the top end of my budget

I will speak to LM today and then we have to choose setting. Was going with classic 3 stone- but now I learn from other threads that he actually has several different ''classic'' settings with difference thickness, etc.

Soooo many choices!

Just got an email from LM and HE FEELS #4 is best as well!

Great!

So I guess you''re going ahead with option 4?

Yes- going with 4!!! I think that was the hard part and the rest should be easy. One his web site almost ALL of his 3 stone rings don''t have any fancy stuff on the bands/ pave so very little decisions left! Just make it, baby! I learned from Harriott''s thread that he does do a few different thinknesses for bands , but I think I am going to go not extra thin, not really think either. There is also the double claw or single claw issue- but he said he prefers to do a single prong with tanzanite so I will just go with whatever he thinks. I can''t wait for it to be ready!!!

AHHHH- one more choice! Leon mentioned since we are going with smaller traps than my original concept due to budget constraints. And since with my ring size I will see probably more metal on the shank than I wanted since not doing my original huge traps sides concept... I can get much more bang for the buck by adding pave diamonds on the shank. I can do just the top, or on 3 sides and really make it awesome (but probably over my budget)

So- either NO diamonds on shank, or I can definitely afford one row of pave on top of shank.

What do folks think? After all- this will be a special occasion ring and not everyday.

I searched all over his website and PS and did not find a 3 stone ring with only pave on top... they all have 3 sided pave, and/or pave on basket, or halos and pave all over head, etc. and that is too much $$$.

So- plain old boring metal shank- but classic.
OR sparkle shank that is still classic- but maybe more busy than I need????

What to do?

I''m concerned that the pave might be a bit busy for the trap sides. Hmmm....it''s hard to visualize it. We need photoshop HELP!

I know. After work I looked through PS pics for hours trying to find something! This is a 5 stone ring from his site- it has traps, then bullets, then pave on top of shank. Some might think it looks busy with so many shapes- but try to imagine if you take out the bullets.
Leon is the one who SUGGESTED doing some melee on the band so don''t see metal- so i am thinking about it seriously. I know most of his old 3 stone pics don''t commonly have pave on band- but one of his newest pics that he wanted me to look at- has lots. I will attach next the pic he wanted me to look at- but it has MORE pave than he was thinking. (he doe not want to do stones on basket when working with tanzy)

LM newest design...

LM r954.jpg

Julie,
Those stones and sides are so HUGE that I don''t think the pave on the band can be seen by the viewer.
9.gif
How much metal are you going to see on each side for your ring? If it''s just a little, it may not make any sense to spend $$ on pave that you can barely see.

Yes- these were the only pics I could find. My center stone is 12.3 x 9.8mm and then the traps are 7.30 x 3.50.

I think I am a tad concerned that even if I like the size look of traps when placed right next to stone- I understand when it is set, the traps will look smaller because set lower then center stone and placed on arch.

All the 3 stone designs I love have bigger stones - thus no pave because won''t see any band! leon said with my stones- i will see some band from top view?

Two ideas I had- what about flipping center stone and setting it east-west with trap sides???? I think this looks really cool, but will it make it look more casual?

Second idea was see what it costs to do a classic 5 stone ring?

Or just a few stones on either side like this next pic and will be really inexpensive to add (but with no milgrain)...

I like this one and it isn't to hard to imagine it as a cushion center. It will definitely give you major finger coverage.

Here's Leon's version:
EASTWEST.jpg

If you want to keep with the NS version, I like the one with just a few small melees on the side.

I found that same one on ice site and saw on PS someones else had east west with LM. Thanks for sending his pic. I actually REALLY like it!!!! I think that might be my favorite!!! Let''s see what Lm says---

Chrono-
Just spoke with Leon and he loves the idea of setting my stone east-west and I love it too! He had forgotten about his ring that you added to this thread. I emailed it to him and he said if I like east-west (and I DO) it is his favorite way to set! Jackpot!

He is going to double check what traps will look best if we flip center stone and will send pics. i will be post when I get them.

THANKS!!!!

All right!

A win-win for everybody. I can''t wait to see more pictures!

Just got Lm suggestions for east-west setting! The lighting is a bit different in each pic so my center stone looks better in one of the pics- but we know that is a keeper! Just need to choose sides. Opinions?

east west choice #1

east west w small traps.jpg

east west choice #2

east west w large traps.jpg

I LOVE the color of tha stone!
I prefer E/W #1 - i like the shap of the traps - the way they taper.

*DROOL*

I like how they taper also- but they are much smaller...more then half the ct of the other options so I am afriad once set in ring- lower than center stone and on angle- they will look too small and like an afterthought. On my lunch break i have been trying to cut little pieces of paper according to measurements and this is how I realized they are pretty small. however- I could do small stones and pave on band for same price as larger stones alone! However my original idea was for a substantial 3 stone ring. It is just so hard for me as amateur to translate stones to depth and roundness of real ring setting!

oh my god, oh my god, oh my goooooooooooooooooddddddddddddd, I am dying over the last two options. The baguettes now go perfectly with your cushion sitting e/w instead. I can''t wait to see the finished piece!

My heart is palpitating, i need to go lay down before I have a heart attack!

I like the second one for East West. Your ring is going to be gorgeous!

Order is in- now I just have 6 weeks to wait for my LM masterpiece!

OMG, I just found this post. Your ring is going to be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo gorgeous. I can''t wait to see it. A Leon to boot, YAY.
What a Beautiful Tanzanite!!!!!!!!!
