Hi:
I’m a complete noob, but have been lurking here for months while searching for that perfect diamond. I want to thank everyone in this forum for all the excellent information that has allowed me to shop with more confidence that I would have otherwise been able to. All the searching has come down to this:
I have a 24-hour hold which expires tonight on the following diamond from James Allen. For my own peace of mind, I would appreciate confirmation from all the experts and enthusiasts here that I am about to purchase an excellent diamond and that the ideal scope shows excellent light performance (I am new at this).

AGS Cert # 104047843001
Shape: Round
Carat weight: 2.23
Cut: Ideal
Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Depth: 61.4%
Table: 56.0%
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 8.39*8.42*5.17

Attached is the Ideal Scope image ( I don't know how to post into the text). HCA score is 1.2.

Thank you very much with all for your time and any comments you may have.

Re: Noob needs help with final selection of ID 2.23 round VS

thank you folks. I have placed my order. Should get it in about 7 days. I will report back. Now I need to find an independent appraiser in Chicago and get insurance for it (I've read here that Jewlers Mutual is a good option).

thanks much

I'm anxiously waiting... FedEx says it should be here today. I had the stone mounted in this setting: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/pave/White-Gold-2-1mm-French-Cut-Pave-Engagement-Ring.html

Can anyone recomend a good appraiser in Chicago? Searching here, I came across this one:

Heidi Harders, BSBA, ISA-CAPP, GG,
President
Chicago Gem and Jewelry Evaluation Services, Inc.
55 East Washington St., Suite 813
Chicago, IL 60602
Phone: 312-578-0440
Fax: 312-578-0477

Does anyone have any experience with Ms. Harders?

Finally, I must be getting nervous or anxious, or both... I just noticed in the AGS cert that the girdle is "brutted" from 1.5% to 3.7%. this seems very thick. is this bad? does anyone have any thoughts on this?

thanks

Bruted vs faceted girdle will have no effect on appearance or light return that you need to worry about in your stone - "bruted" is just leaving the frosted result of the finishing process, instead of an extra faceting and polishing. It's not a sign of a poorly manufactured stone, though it is rather unusal in these sizes. Thread here has useful information.

AGS measures girdle width at the absolute max and min all the way 'round the stone, GIA measures only in the valleys, so it is not unusual for AGS measurements to show larger spread. Again, not to worry.

If it can comfort you, even EightStars come with bruted girdles, and they are not cheap!
:)

Did ya get it??

Re: Noob needs help with final selection of ID 2.23 round VS

Hi guys, I got it in the mail today. It looks great!!!! I’m having it appraised by an independent appraiser next week. Heidi Harders is not available, so I’ll have to use another person she recommended: Bill Milne. Any thoughts on him?

The appraisal that came with the JA package was about 6-7K more than I paid (!!!), so it is somewhat inflated (‘ya think)…and as has been posted here, does no one any good to over insure. I think I’ll use Jewelers Mutual per the many good recommendations here.

Re the brutted girdle, I really did not pick up on this before ordering – the fact that it is not polished. But mine does not look all the way frosted, it's more of an in-between. Doing more reading here and in other websites, it seems that stones J color or lower are left brutted. So I’m a bit at a loss as to why this AGS I color was not polished. I guess it really doesn’t matter though because the stone and setting look fantastic. I wish I could post pics, but I it would be very difficult to do having my future fiancé hanging around the house :). If I get a few mins alone with the camera, I’ll do my best.

Thank you all for all the great help.
