Not Jewelry, But a Jewel

This is a cigarette box made from one hollowed-out piece of lapis. Created by Janesich, c. 1925, probably for Iya, Lady Abdy, whose heirs consigned it to Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels auction next month. Otherwise, it is pretty & all that, condition not faultless. Pieces demanding unusual skill & toil make me breathless with admiration, so wanted to share it with y'all.

Though I have no interest in smoking, I would be glad to use it for a credit card holder or iphone case!

Oh heck yeah! Amazing what talented people are able to accomplish. I wonder if it was ever actually used as a cigarette case.
