Update! I told my doctor I was sure it wasn’t muscular..It’s an irritated nerve..as it’s just the skin on my neck and ear. I don’t have muscle spasms..The headache is sharp and throbbing. My husband and I already decided I would make an appointment with a Neurologist next week. She said that I should see how I do over the weekend. If it’s the same to call the office to schedule a visit with their neurologist..TG She also said she could start me on Gabapentin. I told her I read that Gabapentin doesn’t work immediately. She disagreed..She said it would work right away..I’m happy I’m going to see a neurologist because that’s who I think I need to see. I had one picked out..but I’ll go to the one there..I don’t think this would be too difficult for a neurologist..even if he’s not too great..to figure out. So at least I’m getting somewhere. Sometimes going with the flow isn’t a good thing. You have to advocate for yourself.
Finally, some help! Just btw, here are the top two responses re Gabapentin and its efficacy timing:
I'm not sure why your dr doesn't know this (ie taking time to kick in), but Gaba is still probably the right drug for you if this situation is going to drag on this long, and I got a lot of relief from it when I was on it. The other thing was that they built up the dose 25mg per dose per week for me, so it took three weeks for me to reach the full dosage anyway (75mg twice a day). It can make you very woozy and feel a bit weird, so you're supposed to segue into it slowly. Going straight to a full dose can be rather rugged - especially if you're also on certain muscle relaxants (cyclobenzaprine and valium that I know of for sure, tho there are possibly others) and also losartan (BP med), which can interact with the Gaba to make you feel very woozy and slow down your heart. I never had any of this, tho I did feel somewhat slow and light headed for the first couple of weeks.
Fingers crossed that something brings some relief!
Good morning lovely ladies and happy Caturday Saturday!
@canuk-gal hahaha yes, the furry mobsters should chip in lol. I don't know if you are on IG but there is a page there for Milo the chunk who is a cat who is absolutely hysterical (his owner is great with anthromorphizing) and we love his page. He calls his owners "butlers" and he "allows them to live rent free" haha. And that is exactly how our kitties feel...letting their servants (us) live in their house rent free. Glad you got the bedding done...I love slipping in between the sheets and covers when everything is freshly washed and soft and it feels so good. Glad you had a good day with your DH who was WFH and dinner sounded delish. How was it working the other day? I remember it was a while for you and I hope it went smoothly...Enjoy a terrific weekend Sharon.
@MamaBee good for you pushing to see the neurologist. Always listen to your gut. I am so sorry for all you are going through and I fervently hope relief will be yours soon...whatever this is may you make a full recovery. Big hugs sweet friend
@mrs-b thank you! I never stopped walking-only when it was pouring rain as I recall. I am amazed 7 plus weeks have passed since Greg's surgery and walking alone for the most part. It goes so fast. All of it. If we are keeping the furniture I will take photos when I can for you. I do not love the new couches as much as the old couches tbh but we shall see. it was hard deciding since I did not see it in person and just choosing from photos. A gamble to be sure. Speaking of gambles...no I have not started the new meds and not sure I will...I have not told the nephrologist yet because I am not completely sure but also because if I upset him he probably won't want to continue seeing me (and he is not legally allowed to see me since he is not licensed here in our states). It's a tough decision. He is very very smart. But that guarantees nothing unfortunately as I have already witnessed with other bright physicians. Not when it comes to super rare diseases. Leave it to me to get something totally rare and not run of the mill. Again. LOL. Speaking of photos, girrrrl, where are the photos of your new bling...cmon now. Spill.
@Austina glad you are getting much needed rain...we have some in our forecast for tomorrow but today looks to be another nice day. What a run of gorgeous weather we have enjoyed. Yesterday though was a bit ridiculous...75 degrees F. Which for me, is too hot for March. I mean cmon already lol. I was not ready for this heat and glad it is a bit cooler (albeit still above normal) today. Thanks for asking about Greg's knee. It was a bit less swelling yesterday. And he did walk with me for a little while. But it is very slow going this time around. I have not yet decided if I will let them take it away since I want to be sure about the new couches before I do...we can donate them to charity so maybe we will do that. Not sure yet. Enjoy a wonderful weekend
@Slickk happy weekend! Have a great weekend no matter what you do
@bling_dream19 hope all is going well and your weekend plans are fun
@marcy hope you had a good week and an even better weekend...don't work too hard...enjoy whatever you do
Hello everyone else. Hope all is well. Yesterday was a good day but omg it was HOT. I had a long walk and it was 75F and despite wearing light clothing it was still too hot for me. TG for the ocean which did help with its cool breeze and made the walk possible. Have a great Caturday Saturday all. Enjoy. XOXO
Moody clouds...gorgeous and you can see the city skyline in the background
As usual the path was pretty quiet though more people than average because it was a gorgeous day
One last cloud photo...they were so pretty yesterday
@MamaBee please research Trigeminal Neuralgia. I also took Gabapentin but it did not help me much if at all!! If the symptoms of TN look familiar to you, feel free to reach out to me on IG. Sending hugs and well wishes to you
Thank you @Slickk I don’t have facial pain..Mine is on the back of the head behind my ear..up and down the skull..The skin burns like a bad sunburn on my ear, behind my ear and on the skin of my neck on the same side. I think it involves the occipital nerves..so it may be Occipital Neuralgia.
How long did it take to go away?
Thank you for offering to help.
HI:
@MamaBee nerve pain is awful--especially in the head. I had shingles in my face 10 years ago which has left me with post herpetic neuralgia. I don't recall the Gabapentin working all that well, so I didn't use it long term. Hope the Neurologist can give you some clues.
kind regards--Sharon
@MamaBee imo nerve pain is the absolute worst, difficult to diagnose and hardest to treat. For me, they kept thinking it was a tooth problem. And most of you know how that turned out for me. It was an absolute nightmare. In the end, after the surgeries, that nerve is gone along with that awful pain. I did not find the gabapentin helpful much at all. Hoping the neurologist will diagnose quickly and find a course of treatment for you. Sending hugs and warm wishes as always.
@Slickk Did you have the nerve removed? I’m happy it’s over for you. I know you suffered so much..It really makes you remember that the simple things in life are so important…Hugs back
HI:
I receive Botox in my scalp/brows. It helps--but that I didn't start that for a few years after the shingles. I saw a Neurologist as well. Honestly not much helps--I'm sorry to say.....
kind regards--Sharon
