(To get away from the misleading Hillary thread.)

Hillary has not conceded, McCain is in need of a wheelchair and oxygen tank, and Obama about to speak. What will he say??

And he wins Montana as well.

ETA: Did anyone else notice that Hillary's crowd was pretty tiny compared to the size of the room? And check out Obama's crowd!

McCain is in need of a wheelchair and oxygen tank

LOL!!!

This is surreal. I mean really. It''s just one of those moments.

It is so surreal. It''s an amazing moment in US History.

I think that her not stepping down and conceding put a dent in her desirability as a VP candidate. She''s totally showing that she''s got her own agenda and won''t give in to the pressure for uniting the Democratic party.

Does anyone else think that Michelle Obama looks fabulous in that color?

That color was fab on Michelle...

I have to say, it''s not just his race that makes this historic, it''s the generational impact.

That's what I was thinking!!!!There are SO MANY young people in the audience it's incredible. And compare the ages of them to the ages of the McCain supporters listening to his speech-there's like a 50 year age gap (at the very least).

What a great speech. He's somethin'.

Now that he's shaking the hands of the crowd, there are SO MANY younger people there-like 16-24. It's amazing.

Very very very very very cool. I just wish Hillary would faaaaade out now, but we can''t be that lucky.

Still, no complaints from me. Except I will actually miss Freke''s Daily Delegate Count...

(Tiny threadjack) - Well, wedding is Thursday at noon. I''m so tired I almost can''t get excited about it, somehow we got "married" some months ago - not sure just when, but this almost seems an afterthought. I''m sure that only someone who''s been married once before AND has the amount of crap going on right now that I do, can understand that statement.
5.gif
But rest assured, I''m pretty thrilled, on the inside.

The "party" in July will be the big thing I''m thinking....food (we''re making it - because we both love to cook for our friends), cake (we''re not - wish YOU were here Freke!) liquor (top shelf margaritas) punch, wine, beer, and music hand-selected by me (eclectic mix from my era and up).

I post this in here because, well, I''m in here the most, I think....

Wish me luck guys!

It is so surreal. I loved his speech. And yes Michelle totally rocked that color, she''s stunning. Plus I love her sense of humor.

Karen that''s so cool! You''re wedding plans sound similar to mine. I too plan to marry on a Thursday and we plan to throw a big party for friends and family that following Saturday. I will cook along with FI''s parents, my best friend, and my best friend''s mom. We''ll throw in some large party orders from places we like. And now that you mention it, I think I want margaritas LOL.

I loved the speech too. And isn''t her sense of humor killer? She''s sarcastic and dry, which is like English humor which I really love.

OMG I love the flirting between Donna and Anderson. She made such a cute face.

Congratulations, Karen! It sounds like a pretty great idea to me.

As far as Clinton goes, I don''t like her for the VP (I''d like to see Webb in that spot, actually), but I think she''d be great as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. I''d also love to see Gore as Secretary of the Interior.

Anyone else have thoughts on the VP and cabinet spots?

Also, Michelle Obama looked FABULOUS. I loved her outfit.

Celebratory Margaritas for everyone!!!! To celebrate the primary season being over FINALLY and that Karen is getting married!!!!

That is so exciting Karen!!!Good luck and have fun!!!! And don''t stress on the cooking thing. (And if you need any cake advice, you know where to find me!I''m guessing you''re having someone else make it??)

I''m kind of glad that it''s all over now because I have to go back to school on Monday, so I''m not going to have much time to be doing it all anymore. But not to worry, I''m sure I''ll come up with other stuff to count or keep track of.

Plus, now we get to try and guess who McCain and Obama will pick as VPs!!! Yay!!!!

These emoticons will probably get lots of use in that discussion:

Well, the liquor prices (I''ve purchased already) are just staggering. I nearly hurked up a lung. $500 for margaritas?? I had to cut it in half. I guess they may just run out. Oh well. The party crashers, (there WILL be some - it''s kinda tradition at the place we''re having it) will be what they will be. And besides, we''ll have plenty of everything else.

Let me know if you want the recipe and I''ll see if I can get it from my friend. His margaritas are stupendously good, and he''ll be making them for me as a gift. (Labor is all I want for a wedding present. Stuff I got plenty of!) They use a silver label tequila, huge quantities of Grand Marnier (gulp!) Cointreau, and Corona beer. Not too glucky sweet. Amazing things.

Ditto what Freke said and I forgot to say Karen, CONGRATS! I didn''t even realize how close it was to Thursday!

Yes, thank god it''s over. I have to learn Spanish dammit! LOL...and then Italian, and then German, and then Lithuanian.

OH MAN! Can we crash this wedding? I love margaritas, corona''s are my summer beer of choice (it''s the lime) and FI loves Grand Marnier and Cointreau! LOL. Seriously, definitely give me the recipe.

How many people are you planning to have? I''m still trying to figure out my budget. We went from 50 people to nearly 80! This wedding party stuff is insane LOL.

Oh yeah! I''m not THAT dumb. I can bake, but this is cake for about 150. Since I have neither the time, the honed skill, nor the commercial ovens, I''m having a local place called La Baguette do it. Sheet cake. Amaretto Italian Meringue Buttercream (over two layers of cake with crushed almonds and apricot preserves between). In July. In Oklahoma. I obviously like living dangerously.

Seriously sorry for the jack, guys! And thanks for all the congrats. It''s been 28 years in the making, so I think this time it''s gonna stick...

I''ll get the recipe for you. I also have a seriously divine punch recipe - fresh juices, (hand-squozed citrus
2.gif
) and cranberry, pineapple and ginger ale and simple syrup. No sherbet, no foamy. Summer refreshing. Great stuff.

Well, it is probably going to be around 120-130, when it''s all said and done? Who knows. We''re waiting on the RSVP''s now. But Kevin says we must figure for about a 15% "mooch" factor. Budget? What''s that?
26.gif

We''re having roasted pork loin, sliced thin and served with rolls and condiments. Marinated shrimp - my special party recipe recreated from a local caterer who would NOT give me the recipe. A bean type relish that holds up well in the heat - cowboy caviar is what I''m thinking. The famous "cheese ball" that I take to every party - a cream cheese vegetable spread, homemade olive tapenade, guac and chips, cheese assortment. Cake.

This may change as we get closer, but the pork and shrimp are non-negotiable....

Ok, so like I said. Can we crash this party?? LOL, you are making me hungry!

Jack Away Karen...Congratulations!!!

Now, back to the topic...
Get out of To-oo-own...They are circulating two large petition drives to try to pressure Obama to select Hillary as the V.P.
20.gif

This is bullying at it''s most obscene. Does Hillary really think that she can bully Obama into choosing her as his running mate
33.gif

She is so delusional. I would have considered Hillary a serious contender before Obama entered the race, but her tactics are so disappointing. She just can''t take the high road.

The only reason Obama didn''t wipe her off the pavement months ago, is because of the ridiculous primary rules in many states. Open ticket states went overwhelmingly in Obama''s favor. Which means that many Republicans, Independents, and Misc. party members chose Obama.

I lobby in politics fairly heavily and I am completely transpartisan. I am a humanist. I can tell you that the younger generations are more passionate, more informed, and more inspired by Obama than at any other time in history. They make the lovefest for JFK look like a small block party. This younger generation is angry at what they perceive as the screwed up world they may inherit as a result of the failings of the older generations who have put their own interests above the common good. Globally there is a HUGE movement by the younger generations to band together and defeat the threats to their survival. I am impressed beyond measure at their fortitude and their heart. I am so proud to be part of their victory.

YYYAYAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!! Dancing around here! YAY!!!!

Now, off to volunteer for the national campaign... It turns out that it''s legal for foreign nationals to volunteer as long as we don''t use any actual skills that we might get paid for elsewhere. And since I don''t have any of those, I''m good!

Boo, I can''t find any videos that show the entire speeches of all three candidates. I hate that our media thinks we all suffer from ADHD and can''t watch more than a 5 minute video. In fact, they love to break it down to 2 minutes. Grrrrrrrrr

Maybe give it a couple of days. I bet Youtube will have it sometime within the week. Not to mention the candidates will probably have them up somewhere.

(I''m all for crashing Karen''s wedding. Marinated shrimp? You bet!)

You know, I''m in Zambia right now and just yesterday I was discussing this Obama/Clinton race with some local Zambian colleagues and it was so interesting what they were saying about it. They are very pro-Obama but not because he''s black or because he has ties to Africa, it was because they really felt that when he speaks, he is clear, he has the power to inspire, and they feel he''s someone who''s different from the usual American Presidential candidates.

So after we talked, I went back to my hotel and later last night I saw some news clip on CNN of Clinton "supporters" (read: batcrap crazy crones who probably dont shave their pits or legs because it''s their ''statement'' in life) and one was ranting and raving and shaking her fists yelling maniacly "DENVER! DENVER! DENVER!" Then they tried to interview another older woman and she just started crying and getting all emotional over things and all I could think was "thanks Ladies, for setting back Women''s Rights 5 decades and thanks for reinforcing that women are too emotional to lead this country!" I was so disgusted by these people and the fact that their insane behavior just made them look like loons. I cannot believe that Clinton actually wants this type of person representing her in the media.

Then CNN cut to Obama giving a speech and it was like night and day. No ranting and raving supporters. No psychotically grinning people standing behind him nodding their heads like bobble head dolls. Just sanity. It was like a breath of fresh air.

Then this morning I saw a clip of a McCain speech from yesterday where he''s standing there like a cardboard cut out that''s seen way too many play dates, trying to deliver a "strong" speech (which was a joke anyway, because, you know, he''s NOTHING like Bush, how dare anyone say he is...) and at one point he pauses and makes this psycho weird GRIN, very quickly, then back to ranting, because it was like he suddenly remembered that his minders probably told him to smile more and try to get a personality...Then they showed Obama again and again, like a fresh breeze of coherent normality. Ahhhhhhhhh!
