Link to the videos please help me decide if this is a good diamond or if I should keep looking I do t have the exact measurements as it’s not certified yet it does have a table of 48% and is 10.56 mm

I think this stone is gorgeous!! tiny table and puffy crown <3

Thank you soo much I was concerned about the petals and if they played nice with light

Do you feel there are any obstruction to the center?

I just see the petals go dark in some videos or don’t dance as well as I hoped they would ? I’m not an expert though so it might be great it’s just my new forever diamond so if I need to change now is the time

It has a 44 degree extremely deep pavilion. There is a nice 4ct OEC hiding inside.

So a deep pavilion will make centre less bright what do I ask for if they recut this diamond

Makes the centre reflect your head and unless you shine a light on your face the diamond is dead inside the table.
Most of the light that would have exited via the crown facets is lost.
Most of the light entering the entering the outer rows of facets exit via the pavilion.
Search for ideal-scope reference chart and look at the right side stones.

Ok is that found on pricescope I feel I need to tell them exact measurements to get this right

It does look like it’s dead in centre that was my fear

What is the ideal percentage for pavilion ect ? For oec diamonds

I will not say because it upsets the Old cohort :lol-2::P2o_O:kiss2:

Haha well how am I supposed to know what I’m supposed to ask for than lol if 44 is too steep what a more reasonable around percentage haha

ashdawnp try to find some AGS Ideal reports for OEC diamonds still floating around out there to give yourself a rather strict range of proportions and angles for a recut.
(hint: think along the lines of visiting Canera's and Distinctive's sites).

I say, if you have an inkling of hesitation... I would change it.

Its TOTALLY personal preference, but i dont like the center mains (petals) that look almost like a star like this is and all go dark at the same time where the mains are a point, its totally personal preference! I like the center mains to look more like coffins... hahaha

This is the "point" center mains (this is not your stone, but yours is similar, just a saved pic i had to try to explain what i mean) they're a symmetrical shape, each main is the same distance top to bottom

these are "coffins" LOL!
They're more uneven and they dont come to a point

Wow that oec is so so stunning I actually gave them a similar picture for reference because I loved that look too I feel the stone I have the petals don t dance very well and aren’t posting with light so I do t know what to ask for to make this different ? Like how do I get them to change the cutting so the centre isn’t dark the whole point if an oec is those beautiful centre petals dancing away lol ‍♀️Amy help is appreciated ❤️

Trying to tell them how to cut it is a fools errand bc that is a level of skill none of us have. You are better off buying from a vendor who has produced stones you like the look of before.

Very wise advice

These are not my words, this is something I saved in word when I was recutting the diamond in my avatar:

<<It’s this Lower Half facet length relative to the Table that determines the facet pattern under the table.

If the Lowers are cut so they just reach the edge of the table you won’t see the flower pattern face up, but you will see a partial as the diamond is tilted.

If the Lowers are cut too short to extend under the table, all you will see is the eight Pavilion Main facets, creating the pinwheel pattern. This was the pattern of most of the OECs we were shown.

So in any OEC recut the facet pattern under the table is determined by the length of the Lower Half facets. Personal preference determines the pattern you want, but to get it you have to tell your cutter exactly how to cut those Lower Half facets. >>

Facet Diagram 2.png

Personal preference, I like 60-65 facet lengths. Victor Canera cuts his with 66% Lowers

You can watch this video for Jonathan at Rhino explaining it, great video, and he shows the progression to MRB which have the i think 80% lowers

I agree to a point. I used southwest, who is AMAZING, but i still gave him every single number I wanted.

There are so many flavors of OEC, and I wanted a very specific one and i wasnt leaving it to chance, so i needed to learn what made my dream pattern OEC look like that, and tell him, it's like $500+ a carat to recut (PLUS the cost of the MRB you choose) and I didnt want to end up with one that I didnt love.

With a true antique, you can see them and just pick what you love, you dont need to know every single number. If you're custom cutting you need to know how all the numbers work and how they relate to each other and what they do. It took me hours and hours of research to nail down what pattern I wanted and to figure out the numbers to get that pattern.

This is incredible information I’d love one that looks like yours or the Victor canera oec which I sent the cutter originally but I think yes you need to give them exact measurements or guide to get closer to desired petals you want ❤️off to watch this video thanks again

I did follow your journey I loved reading all the details and love and work you out into getting you’re final perfect oec I do feel you need to get a very skilled cutter to get your vision right this oec I had done was around that price 500 per and from a Chinese vendor ~ Firosee
So I don t know the level I can get specific with them …. But I will try … I have a large credit with them so this seemed logical to use them to make a dream
Oec …. Or try to lol …

It’s amazing you took the time to learn that. I don’t think southwest will work with consumers like that anymore from what I read in more recent threads? Your experience may be relatively unique.

Ug, it was like 16 months ago and i had a lot of time on my hands back then... LOL!!!!! I learned it all from another PSer's thread, but i didnt save the whole thread, i just cut and pasted the relevant part I needed and saved it in word a folder.

I am not sure about southwest, you may be right, like i said this was about 16 months ago I think?? it was last december... which is crazy because i dont feel like i have had it that long!!

I suspect the labour to payment ratio was off for the vendor in a situation like that which is why he charges more/wont do it anymore.

As I said, attempting to tell someone else how to cut a diamond is not typical. I hope OP goes a different route.

I didnt have a good experience with Fiorese for custom cut. They dont seem to do what you ask, they seem to do what they think it is you want
