So, originally we were thinking a 1 ct super ideal in a Gelin Abaci tension setting. He had a Gelin Abaci dealer calling in stones but they hadn't found the one yet. And then we saw an OEC at a local pawn shop when we were browsing old coins. We fell in love. So totally 180 change in plans from super modern to an old cut. We purchased this one:

I hope we did good for first time OEC buyers.

He wants to set it through the original store we were working with, since they did have a few rounds of GIA XXXs and AGS 000s sent in for us. They put in a fair amount of work and were nothing but nice to us. This limits us to Verragio or Tacori (I don't like the idea of an OEC in a tension setting from Gelin Abaci). I want something that really compliments the diamond, in white gold, hopefully under $3k.

From Tacori we like:

From Verragio we like:

Thoughts? Opinions?

Beautiful stone! I personally like the first Tacori :) I have a similar stone set in a Tacori 2639 and I think it compliments the stone very well!

I have to say I like the tacori settings better.

I like the first one best and then number 2. It depends on if you want something more simple or not. Do you know if you are going to were a wedding band with it and if so what type you might want? That may help you pick the ring you like best.

I like the other one that some one shared but I would like to see if there is a real life picture to see what it really looks like.

not sure if that helps

I don't like Verragio settings. I find them very over priced for the quality.

I wouldn't put a lot of action around a stone THAT gorgeous. I'd try to keep to something that really lets that beauty shine.

The second tacori is too prongtastic.
The first is nice.
The third doesn't do anything for me.

Does this one appeal at all: http://www.tacori.com/engagement/58-2rd65.html

What other jewelry lines does that jeweler carry? Maybe there is something in another line that might suit?

How about just cutting the jeweller a check for $200 as thanks and then buying the setting you want wherever you want! Save the money on the designer name... Even giving the jeweller the thank you tip you would come out ahead. I cannot stomach the price of tacori or veragio or most designers for that matter.

I agree with this. :wavey:

Here's are my top five that are either at or (in some cases well under) budget:

http://www.sholdtdesign.com/Vashon/R379.htm I've seen a few OEC's in this setting and they look FANTASTIC
http://www.sholdtdesign.com/Vashon/R3791D.htm Nice twist on the last setting

And one more, though it's slightly over budget: http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/erika-winters-bridal/laurel-solitaire-engagement-ring.html#.U4gUrChjb9Q

Prices are all for Platinum since that's what I assumed you wanted. :wavey:

To answer a question, I don't plan on wearing it with a wedding band. I work in chemistry and per new OSHA recommendations, you can't wear anything with stones under gloves, not even bezel set. So we plan on buying a plain metal band, probably a Cartier trinity or similar. I'll just wear one or the other depending on whether I'm at work or not.

I do love the Sholdt semi-bezel. I think that's my favorite. I haven't even seen the diamond in person (we're long distance). He's been teasing me since yesterday with pictures. I'm driving up there tonight and we're going to look at settings in person tomorrow. I hope the store has more than just those brands, but that's all he remembered them having. I'll see how he feels about the suggestion to just thank them and shop elsewhere.

Well, it's ordered. Now just to wait. He really wanted to buy from them and I did fall in love with a setting...one I hated online.

In the internet picture the prongs looks so gigantic but it didn't look like that in person. Totally not what I thought I wanted, but something about the OEC next to the micropave really made the chunky facets pop.
