ok...

if anyone remembers my last topic on importing diamonds to the UK... you may be upto speed.

anyways.

Friend of mine came to me 'since you something about diamonds dont you?'

So - his basic criterior is that he wants something around 1ct - either face up size wise... or weights 1ct+ preferably high colour grade, but willing to go down to G. clarity, same story as colour - VS1 and above. and all for less than $7000

So i've presented as many choices as i could, from all the usual suspects... and in the end needed to get it down.
These are the final contenders

first up - found in the inital search a 0.94ct G VVS1 from GOG
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2073/
Width: 6.30mm
Length: 6.35mm
Depth: 3.87mm
Table Percentage: 57.20%
Depth Percentage: 61.26%
Crown ∠: 34.68°
Crown Depth: 14.72%
Pavilion ∠: 40.98°
Pavilion Depth: 43.34%
Upper Girdle ∠: 43.12°
Lower Girdle ∠: 42.12°
Fluorescence: Negligible

and the other being 0.924ct D VS1 from WF (ACA)
http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-118534.htm#
. Depth %: 61
. Table %: 56.5
. Crown Angle: 34.7
. Crown %: 15.2
. Star : 58
. Pavilion Angle: 40.8
. Pavilion %: 43
. Lower Girdle %: 77
. Girdle: Thin-Faceted
. Measurements: 6.27-6.33X3.84
. Fluorescence: Medium Blue

So there we go. 2 diamonds - virtually identical on price, and size and weight.... only differances are the the D v G colour and while both are eye clean - there is a couple of grades differance in clarity.

what do you guys think? G or W

c?

Compromise more on clarity, less on size, going over 1 carat?

1.04 G VS2 $6660

Well, they are both beautiful diamonds. If she doesn''t want to sacrifice on color or clarity, I would say go for the D/VS1 because to me at least there is more of a visual difference between a D/G color than a VVS2/VS1.

Ira,

you didnt let me down :)
tis what i love about PS

It goes back to personal preference in the end (and your ability to see differences), but I would take a D over a VVS all day. You can definitely see the difference between D and G (for me anyway) but unless you''ve got 20/10 vision, I''m not so sure you can distinguish between VVS2 and VS1.

it''s the WF one for me, not based on color or clarity but just nitpicking on the #''s. i just like the angle combo better with the table and depth. both would be lovely, but i like the 2nd.

I don''t like the look of the thinner arrows on the GOG stone, so I voted for the WF one. Do you think your friend minds flourescence?

I voted for the WF stone. The numbers were spot on for me.

I voted B because of the D med blue (all other things were pretty close - the 77 lgf attracted me too but GOG didn''t list the lgf... I think the only way I''d want a D diamond is if it had med blue flour... dreamy! but not everyone likes that...

right.. well in the end, with voting unaminous - Andy went for the D VS1... i''ve told him the price of adivce on here is to post pictures when he gets it.
