************sorry I don''t have pics*********************

OHHHHHHHHHHHH man!

My hubby and I went on a last minute trip to Kingston this afternoon and went to a bunch of jewelry stores bc tomorrow is our 3rd anniversary

IT was about a 3 1/2 carat rhodolite garnet oval with a thin halo of diamonds and a split band (but it wasn''t very spaced) and diamonds down the shank. Anyway, the guy wanted $3400, and easily went down to 2500 (with tax in). He insisted that rhodolite garnet was "very expensive" and I was puzzled. I thought that it was on the ''cheaper'' side for the stones I have been considering
pink sapphire
pink topaz
pink tourmaline
pink spinel
rhodolite garnet.

Anyway, can any of you comment on the prices associated with the above named stones??? I absolutely was in love with this ring but NOT for over 2 grand....oh the pain to walk away from it!!!

Hi Sophie, In extra fine quality sapphire and spinel could both be over 2000 USD per ct. Pink tourmaline would be next in price for the hot pink color. potentionaly pink topaz could be higher than the tourmaline but I have never heard of topaz in that class color unless it is coated, in which it case is quite inexpensive. Rhodolite is pretty inexpensive in that size although I have seen some bright fushia colored stones that were up to 150 USD per ct. The coated pink topaz would be the least expensive.
Hope this helps

Doug,
Thank you for the reply! This stone was a deeper raspberry color, gorgeous! (To me

)

I also heard him talking to the customer before me and saying that for her wedding band he had to match the doamond color stone to the exact same as the solitaire e-ring...meaning if hers was a "G" the band muct be only "g''s" or you would notice a huge difference. I felt he was leading them, so obviously I could have had this ring for less....

It was very well made, he said all were custom hand made. It happened to be a remount show that day and we walked iin. Anyway, I wasn''t gonna plunck down 2g''s for it without knowing more. but mannnnnnnnnnn it was absolutely perfect!!!!

So if you don''t mind, could you comment on the rhodo garnet I mentioned in the other thread/???

Thanks!

Sophie....First of all Happy 3rd anniversary!Hope you get something very nice and sounds like you are on the right track.Just wanted to show you some pics of my Rhodolite Garnet ring it is 18K gold and 1ct diamonds and a 10X10mm checkerboard top garnet. The pictures do not do justice to the to the color and the fire of the stone.

The ring you discribed sounds bueatiful. Are you going back to get it...maybe? I usually go back and get something after looking at it a few times! Good Luck...Connie

Gene,
Thank you so much for the extremely helpful information. It truly is such a blessing to have such knowledgable people here willing to share their expertise. I absolutely love a deep saturated rhodolite garnet, but i, of course, want it at a ''great'' price!!

If only everything was cheap!

Connita, Thanks for posting the pics of your ring, it is really nice! How much did you pay for it and did you buy it as a set piece, or stone separate from setting??

Oh, and I don''t have any intentions of going to buy it. We can afford the ring, but I don''t feel right about making such an expensive purchase like that on myself right now. We just bought out our business partner, so we own are own business (and all its debt) and we have 2 small children. I would love to get a ring like this for around $1000. I know,i am dreaming!!

Here is another ring I saw awhile back and if you rotate the head to a north/south orientation, it would be fairly similar to the one I tried on......I guesss I will have to pine away after this look some more.... sob, sob..

Sophie.....I understand about first things first!LOL!We just made a large purchase so my jewelry will slow down a bit. Our company purchased a ''70 Cuda(another chunk of

American Muscle) recently and they are a little $$$$, but it is fun and a looker!!! Now back to the subject.........

The ring in the picture is lovely and, I personally, would prefer a N to S setting of the stone.I also love the split shanks.

My ring was a remount show and the stone came from Stuller. It is really a nice garnet. I don''t remember the carat weight but is a 10X10mm cushion. I wanted a large stone and that was my choice and a good one I think. I believe I paid about $400.00 for the stone and she did not charge full retail I was having a number of things done at the time and they just kinda ran into eachother. She gives me pretty good prices cause I give her a lot of business...lol.That is the only stone I have from Stuller and it ,to me, looks like a really nice one...clean and the color and the fire.(my pictures NEVER do good)You might check at your jeweler and see what he can get from them.

oh I am sorry for the confusion.

This ring is listed at $850, so I know IT can be had at under 1000....I guess I was just talking about this sort of ring being made for that price...

Also, I emailed the vendor to find out if they can rotate the center to n/s instead of e/w. Do you think that is possible or should I buy it "as is" and have a jewler change it here if I don''t like the e/w?

(Also, the rhodo is only 1.8 carat, so a bit smaller than I wanted too..

I had a local jeweler here do a ring with one of my stones. It was a 3 stone ring, with my stone as a center, and then two 1/4 ct. diamonds on either side. Very nice diamonds too. Custom carved in wax, and then cast. His price without my center stone was $800
Often these small local guys can be very reasonably priced, and you get a custom one of a kind piece.

WOW! The $800.00 included the 2 1/4ct diamonds too?You wouldn't get that here kinda price here.

Sophie....Have you found out about the ring yet? Keep me posted!

Conitta,
I emailed the company to see if they can cut and rotate the head, but no one has gotten back to me. The only thing that I don''t like is that their return policy is exchange only...no refund...

I have shown this picture to my local jeweler and she is getting me a price quote on the setting and a stone. I just wnat it!!
