Ed at wildfish refunded my deposit (without my asking!) because though he found two perfect rough yellow zircons they came back from the cutter wrong. One came back a round and the other a step cut (asscher). And I had requested a brilliant cut cut corner square. Apparently they thought the describtion was for two different cuts instead of the same cut for both (I think he wanted to give me two to choose from). SO he appologized and refunded my deposit.

SO... I''m left without a gem.

6x6 brillant cut square with cut corners. Anyone see any contenders? *Sigh*

Maybe you can post an image of the cut you have in mind? Your faceting terminology is a little confusing. Brilliant cuts are usually round although there are many different designs that combine brilliant facets and square shapes. Barions, Princess and Scissors cuts are examples.

Jeff Graham''s "Square Point" might work although it''s designed for R.I. 1.62 and would have to be tangent-ratioed to 1.93. Jeff''s also designed one he calls the "Double Cross Square" especially for zircon. But it''s not a "pure" brilliant. I think you''re going to have to work with a custom cutter on this one.

Okay. Hmm... that was over my head. By brilliant cut I thought I was referring to a cut that is not a step cut. That's really all I want. I cut corner square gem that isn't step-cut. I have an asscher in this setting now. 6x6 want to re-use the setting as it is, but don't want a another straight step cut. That's about it.

I've been drooling over this Tsavoite of yours for a while. It's perfect ins shape and size-- but my budget is around $300. Do you custom cut? And could you custom cut a yellow zircon for me?

WINK!!!

That''s who it was I was going to ask for a gem! I knew there was someone on here I had been considering contacting.

That cut is gorgeous. Don''t know how to corners would work in my setting though... doesn''t hurt to ask though. Thanks FG!

Wink was awesome. I highly recommend him. You should definitely check about that cut in your setting - it''s amazing. I copied Yingh''s cut, because I liked her table more (hers is square, Velourial''s is round). I haven''t set it yet. I''m waiting for inspiration.

Okay... I will contact Wink.

And Gene and Micheal E.

But should I buy the rough myself? And if so... from where exactly?

I wouldn''t recomend buying your own rough for a few reasons.
1. It''s hard to find good rough.
2. It takes a long time and many purchases and cutting to know good rough.
3. Even with lots of experiance, you never can be really assured of what the finished stone will look like.
4. Buying one piece you will not get as good a price as someone who buys in large quantities.
5. Once you buy the piece, and it''s cut, even if you don''t like it, your stuck with it.

Okay. Not going to buy my own rough then.

Gene I was going to contact you... I didn''t originally because I haven''t seen any yellow or gold zircons on your site. Apparently yellow (not gold) zircons are hard to find. I saw a few heated ones on ags site... thought to buy one of those and have it recut... but well, maybe I would spend more that way? And should I prefer natural ones instead of heated-- not generally, I mean specifically with regard to Zircons.

D"Oh!

Of course you can''t. Okay. I will be in touch then.

Argh. Gene. Probably not going to email you or anyone else today.

Feeling very... frustrated and can''t deal with anything that isn''t completely mindless and impersonal. Just wanted to let you know, if you were wondering why I didn''t email.
