Old Mine Cut diamond opinion please

Wow that’s wild!!

10 years ago and even today for smaller purchase I am okay without a lab report. But I am finding that nowadays even on eBay reputable sellers offer their old cuts with lab reports. It’s so common! I agree that I would probably not make a large purchase without a lab report. Though, inclusions still differentiate labs from natural.

I’ve never bought any old cut with a lab report. I guess I should have said: a lab report verifies what a dealer is telling you about color, size/weight and clarity (and more recently if it’s lab or not), and thus provides a price rationale.

Along the lines of “this is getting really scary” here’s a modern old cut moissanite with a similar cut to the original stone in question. I say this is getting scary because there is so much demand for old cuts now that the reason to fake is obvious. I’m pretty sad about that, but this may drive cutters’ skills upwards so we get better looking antique cuts.

I’m not saying the Original diamond is new. Just that we can’t really know because we can’t find an antique example. Just new examples.

With these supposedly old cuts that are not obvious/classic cuts, I would be cautious about exactly when it was cut.

I love this one!

Lab reports these days are ideal. Second best is buying diamonds with very obvious inclusions lol

This is a great option. And could potentially be set in an inexpensive (perhaps temporary) setting to stay at or under the $10k budget.

I love the L SI1 one @lulu_ma posted.

I always thought that L color is a nice “whiter” color in antique stones, sometimes this vanilla color. From the side it doesn’t look too warm. And even magnified I don’t notice SI1. It looks clear to me. You can see the knife edge girdle. I’d take a look!

Pertaining to this stone, Anyone have an idea what NOTE: “patches of color are not shown” means…?

Hello! I wanted to thank you all for the help. I have been following along on some of the threads. I ended up not exactly what I wanted, but still very happy. You gave me some great information. I ended up buying an antique setting on Etsy and then sourcing the diamond through the local shop. I feel like I got a decent deal (I did go over the budget) and it was very informative. I realized during this process that it took seeing different diamonds in person the 6th and final one being the winner. Surprisingly I liked the warmer diamonds more. I ended up with an OEC, as the mine cuts were out of budget for the look I wanted. Anyhow here she is. I love her. Although I find her hard to photograph I feel like the pictures do not do her justice. She is 2.08 CT L VS (GIA) with side stones of .64. I do not see any color in her... at least compared to the original piece in this post. I need to get my wedding ring dipped... :)

Very nice! And that is a luxury to pick in person.

Wow very pretty! I’m so glad you kept looking until you found your beautiful diamond. So, that’s amazing you found a vintage setting and then the stone you loved fit into it. I love the double prongs! It’s a really pretty ring all around!
