Old Mine Cut discovery!

South Mississippi has casinos and people DO go in and pawn and sell jewelry for gambling money so we have some with a good selection around here. One ring I bought is a custom made flower design in 18kt gold with diamonds in the center. It’s etched by the hallmark on on the inside of the band and the year date is either 76 or 96. It’s a fine statement ring. I find a LOT of 18kt gold when I go...and I go a LOT. They know me when I walk in. Ha!
I don't think I could ever pawn off my pretties to gamble!

I know of all the places in Santa Fe, and other cities in the Bay Area, California...but have no knowledge of great places Albuquerque except for a few....every time we drive through, I attempt to ‘explore’ but it’s hard to get enough time lol! I recently ventured into a pawn shop in SF. There wasn’t anything good..many chip diamond rings and such.
Ohhh any recommendations in the bay area? I live in Northern California so I am constantly in the Bay! I have found a few local places, but not many. There is one really cool store near my sister in laws houses that I always like to hit up.

I would just ask them if they sell to one particular person, the guys I deal with are very upfront about it, then at least you will know and maybe try your luck at a different shop
Yard and garage sales are starting up again, and I'm always on the lookout. Some people just don't know what they have.........

@stracci2000, I know all about the people who sell stuff at tag sales that don't know what they have because I was one of those people! I sold an Art Deco white gold and aquamarine bow ring for next to nothing about ten years ago. Ugh.

My SIL is a master tag sale buyer. She came away with a solid 18kt gold charm bracelet with all these charms that were encrusted with seed pearls, rubies, sapphire etc for $10. She literally buys antiques wraps them up and puts them in boxes in the attic.

I hope you find some good things!

Oh I love that! Great find and for $2 can't beat it!

Beautiful!!!!!

Wow that looks great on you and it does really bring out the whiteness in the diamond. Amazing that you can make your own jewelry, what a gift, you will just have to buy more diamonds and make more new pieces :)

It's so much fun. I love looking at a stone and imagining all the possibilities!
Are you enabling me, Stephanie Lynn? I went to 2 more pawn shops last week, and there are 5 more on my list. I should NOT be going into these places.............but they have lots of sparkly bling and I have to loupe them all!:P2:lol-2:

@stracci2000, I can't wait to see if you find any more treasures! I'm living vicariously through your diamond hunting adventures :Up_to_something2:

So this is what I did with my OMC.

You made this yourself? That is awesome! I would love to take a jewelry making class. Where/how did you learn?

Thanks, I think it turned out OK!
I learned soldering and stone setting from an acquaintance. She was always wearing beautiful jewelry that she made, so I asked her if she would teach me. I sat with her for 3 hours learning the basics. This was in 2003 or so. I bought all the tools, and set up my own little "bench" in my spare bedroom.
It's really just a hobby, and I work on jewelry most weekends. I have done some shows in the past, but mostly I just make stuff for myself. Needless to say, I have more jewelry than I can really wear!
