OMC help with clarity concerns

I can see the appeal of #2, and it is gorgeous for sure! To me it has a unique performance in the videos, but OH MAN #6 stole my heart. I was trying to focus on #2 since that seemed like the favorite but I was SO distracted by #6. And the setting, oh so sweet and perfect for the stone!

I am not an old cut expert so I just decide based on what appeals to me in these photos. I really like #6 but am probably influenced by its setting as well - stunning! Can't wait for you to see these diamonds to see what you think! Of course, though, you are buying for the diamond and not the setting so I can certainly see the allure of #2. Tough decision that will hopefully be made easier once you see them in person!

Thank you @sweetpea&babycorn and @MissGotRocks ! The setting for no.2 just swallows the stone, so it’s really hard for me to assess - especially since it’s at an angle!

But I agree, the slow, rolling twinkle of 6 is really catching my eye and the setting is FAR more flattering! I actually eyed this particular setting for my existing stone, but it would’ve been “too much” for the smaller stone. Kind of a funny coincidence

I’m so excited to seem them and hope they are both there by next Friday…

I totally agree about diamond #2 and it’s setting. It is in an angle in the setting but looks to be a stunning diamond. Refresh my memory - what are the colors and sizes of 2 and 6 when you get a chance! Exciting stuff!

#2: 2.21 I SI2, 7.75 x 7.69

#6: 2.02 K VS1, 8.00 x 7.55

Wow - #6 looks larger to me than #2 but it is obviously their settings that either diminishes or enhance their size. VS1 is so luxe - love mine as it seems to enhance the sparkle somehow. You are blessed to be neither clarity or color biased so not sure that it matters to you. So glad you can see them in person - that will really tell the tale so we’ll wait now to see what you think. Opinions aren’t really helping you to go in with an open mind and that is what you need to really assess the diamonds. Best of luck to you - and there is always the possibility that there will be another yet unseen contender when you get there!

Appreciate the wisdom! I’m definitely trying to keep an open mind. Agree the K looks FAR bigger!

I was drawn by the iciness of I, but there is something luxe about VS1, especially with a true antique. This seems quite uncommon with OMCs, I’m finding. But maybe it’s just the scarcity right now…

Anyways, stay tuned. I’m still keeping my eyes on other inventory. I found an ~2.5 carat M (8.8 x 7.8!!) that seems promising but I’m waiting on videos

Oh I know this stone! I suggested it to another PSer. The pics are definitely promising, I hope you do share any videos if the vendor gets back to you. If it performs well I think it’d be a pretty good deal!

I love #6 too. It’s beautiful. The stone - and the mount is poetry.

But I’m really concerned about a K for you, can’t lie! You’re dropping from an E, and you’ve expressed a preference for a more colourless stone - a K is going to be a huge jump down! An I is still indisputably white - slightly more tinted than your E, yes, but 100% white and can be mounted into any metal or style you might want later on. With a K you’re going to be more limited if you don’t care for metal and stone to be visibly colour-mismatched.

These bigger stones are more difficult to resell, too - I definitely agree with you that seeing in-person is the best way to future proof!!

You got this. Just a friendly reminder that your priorities are your priorities and that’s totally cool, whatever they are. Most PSers don’t prioritize high colour in antiques but I think maybe you do… More than many of us! I could be wrong! But if that’s the case then that’s a-okay, don’t settle ❤️

You are absolutely right. I need to see this K in person, and think my response to tint is going to vary stone by stone...I am really curious how it looks against my skin or if I like it separately of whether it is flattering or not.

I think whether I buy either of these stones, the trip and seeing things IRL will be illuminating! If neither feels perfect to me or if I have even a glimmer of uncertainty, I will pass.

Appreciate the nudge to keep me honest with myself :)

Tint is absolutely going to vary stone by stone. I have a 2.16 J-VS AVC and it’s beautiful but the tint on it sometimes drives me crazy. However my 2.06 M-VS OEC is absolutely beautiful to me, tint and all. It definitely shows warmer at times than my AVC, but there’s just something about the M stone that I love so much and that tint just became a benefit to it.

Number 7 is S-T, so for the right “tint” I’m open. From what I can tell, no. 7 has a lemony tint, just need to make sure it doesn’t go green…I’m going to see if Grace would be open to brokering this for me as it’s with a wholesaler!

This is a great find. Looks like a beautiful stone, so thanks for sharing. I find Eragem generally so overpriced…they’d have to come down a LOT for me to consider it. Like 10k! It’s a shame really they price so high.

Adam at OWD had a killer 2.96 K SI1 that’s the same price…:(( Sadly quite a bit over budget for me

25k is my “stretch” budget. The closer to 20k the better!

I can't help myself.... it's still not enough (i.e. not the 10k it should be) but Eragem is having a 15% off sale which puts this at 22,950. That sounds better, but then when I think you said it should be 17k... yeah not so much. Well anyway, figured it couldn't hurt to share (though like any devout PSer, you probably already know, lol!)

An unfortunate reminder that I will need to obscure additional options bc of lurkers…that ring was there for a long time…

Oh no!!! That is crummy. Really crummy.

@Cerulean
I’ve seen a smaller one ( +1.70ct) similar shape/faceting that vendor states it’s higher color and clarity than this Lang one.

But don’t know if that’s vendors assessment or a lab report. Pictures are of a dirty stone or they don’t know their elbow from their nostril.

If you are interested……..
Even though it’s smaller than your stated wishes - it just stood out to me as looking quite a lot alike of a stone upon initial view.

I’m on LT under same name
To be secretly secret about it.

But my bets are you’ve already seen it.

I love #6 the most (personally).

Edit to add why I prefer it. Because others you posted have some asymmetry in the "petals" that would bother me, and the fire/cut of #6 really draws me in

Edit 2. I also love #7, but I know you might stick to higher up the alphabet.

Oh man this STINKS! Can you call and reserve #6 at least?

Oh man this STINKS! Can you call and reserve #6 at least?

I already did thankfully! I should’ve done that already but lesson learned

I’m certain it was a PS-savvy lurker

the sales person confirmed that someone called in and is trading in their ring for this “upgrade” and this all took place in the last 48hrs

Really not cool TBH so whoever it was, you better not do a SMTB post :x2

You’re totally right. Asymmetry bugs me a lot and this one is the most symmetrical.

No 7 is absolutely a beauty - the vendor still can’t take videos yet bc the wholesaler is on vacation. I’ll def follow up with more vids

Ooooh that definitely makes a big difference! Thanks for letting me know! I ignored their entire inventory and I’ll give it another look

Oh thank goodness that you reserved #6. I’m hoping that you will still get a peek at #2 just for comparison.

I consider myself color sensitive with modern cuts but Grace’s 5.8 ct K OMC that I saw at JAWS was SO white facing.

I’m hoping that #6 is the same or better for you!

Thank you for the support - and I’m so relieved to!!!! They have another high color OMC that is way over budget (and not cut as well) that I will see if I can try just for comparison sake.

They also kindly offered to look through their upcoming, unlisted items because I am flying in and lost out on a contender. Super gracious!

Wow - that is really over the top to snatch something knowing someone else was considering it! I know it happens but really???
I always think in situations like that there is something better for you down the pike but the gall is really upsetting. Lurking around to take advantage of someone else’s legwork and interest - very poor!!!!

Yes…exactly. Really low. This ring sat with no attention for maaaany months…

I guess it just means it wasn’t meant to be!

And it also means that the lurker is kind of an a**hole :D

I wish them well…and may they be reminded of this thread every time they look at their pretty new upgrade!

I’ll leave the pettiness behind now! Felt good though… My feelings aside, it really takes away from the spirit of the forum if people feel like they can’t share things. It’s really valuable to get other opinions and feedback and to benefit from the collective knowledge of the community - and heck, just share the excitement!

I guess this person is not interested in keeping this a trusting community

I was curious and checked it out... this thread had 83 posts and 2k views. Of course a lot of those could be those of us taking an interest in/excited about your search... but that many views tells me that there are a lot of lurkers looking to benefit from your finds and the feedback they get. It really sucks that you can't post openly and easily to find your dream stone without having to worry about someone quietly benefitting from your legwork while you lose out.

You can’t build your happiness on the back of someone else’s sorrow - the karma bus just keeps traveling along…

Yeah wow that’s a lot of views! It’s true and nice OMCs are scarce (this is what I’m hearing from vendors), I’m in sure this thread could serve as a bit of a feeding frenzy

It’s too bad. But I won’t let it dampen my excitement and I will still share! I will just remove some info. Us die hards will likely recognize the photography, but I’m banking that many lurkers won’t ::)

Huge bummer that #2 was bought by someone else.

To be fair, Lang does have a widely advertised store-wide sale going on, only through July 17th. The purchaser may have found it on the site after receiving one of Lang's sale announcement emails, might have already had it bookmarked but only now realized there was a sale, could be a lurker on PS who saw this thread and bought it, could be a PSer who saw this thread and liked #2 and went for it since there was no hold.

Lesson: Please, always take the time to Reserve/Hold anything you have shortlisted, before putting up a thread about it ... there is always a risk someone else will also fall for what you fell for, and if there's no hold or reservation, it really is legitimately up for grabs.

[FWIW, I did not buy #2 nor would I snipe a PSer's prospective purchase]

Lesson definitely learned! If I’m seriously considering something, I’ll be putting it on hold! I can’t reasonably put every possible contender on hold, but I’ll focus on the top 1-2
