oooh I love the back too! So different and I think it will look nice with the buttons too.

It's cognitive dissonance, and it's totally normal after a large purchase.

Good vendors, should give you a follow-up call after such a large purchase which helps relieve some of the anxiety. (Industrial Psych + Marketing + Sales 101

But don't you worry - cuz you did GREAT!
I love it on you. Yeesh, you're Teenie Tiny.
Classic, elegant, and sophisticated - and pretty.
Melissa Sweet makes beautiful dresses.

Yeay. Make sure to add it to the Show Me Your Dress Thread.

Scintillating...

Haha... I love your analysis, Scintillating... currently on my third psych degree myself, one would think I'd be a bit more self-possessed when it comes to these things.

Mara, I hope your friend gets the chance to try it! Priscilla of Boston (where I got it) told me that the sample had just come in two weeks before, so it was definitely good timing for me. More website pix here if she's interested... I actually liked it better on me than on the more boyish-figured model, I think. And I am not teeny-tiny in real life, I swear! It is the magic of those big industrial clamps they use on the back of the dress. I'm actually minorly concerned about having ordered the dress in a size that was considerably smaller than the sample... I'm hoping it doesn't throw off the proportion of the bodice?

Then the back is the only remaining question-mark... I tend to like dresses with button details, but it's tough to visualize. The two bows felt like a bit much in person, though I don't mind them as much in the picture... hmmm. Hopefully it will look okay with the changes we're making... the consultant seemed pretty confident, so we shall see. In the meantime, I'm happy!

Hi! Another "master of indecision" here (lol, I know what you''re going through!), and I just wanted to assure you that you have absolutely NO REASON to second guess your choice! The dress looks gorgeous on you (very elegant and classic)! I also like the changes that you made (getting rid of the top bow and adding buttons)!

The dress is BEAUTIFUL, and you look great in it. Please keep it. When is the wedding?

wow! i keep coming back to this tread just to catch another glance at this dress!

i think you made a great decision about the back. i was hoping to see buttons & my favorite- the low back. i WISH my gown had the low back. i think it makes for a stunning silhouette. it makes the waist so tiny!!

That dress is beautiful and you look stunning in it!!

ooooooooooh it''s gorgeous on you!!!!!!

Jcrow I think you and I must have been on a very similar wavelength with dresses... the low back is definitely something I was looking for too!

MrzNeicia, the wedding is May 5th... which means dress-shop people were starting to cringe a little when I would tell them the date, and make comments like "oh my! well we better find you a dress then!!" But they said it should come in sometime in December... should be a fun little Christmas present!

Thanks again for all your feedback, everyone!! Now it''s on to bridesmaids dresses... and SHOES!! My colors are varying shades of purple, so I''m kinda thinking lavender shoes...

What a beautiful dress!!! And you look AMAZING in it! Congrats!

PS: I love the idea of lavender shoes! My colors are navy/white with some other shades of blue, so I have been thinking light blue shoes myself!

OOOOH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!!

(Also: BAH! I went like 4 months without seeing a single dress that made me doubt my dress purchase and now all of a sudden like 3 others have popped up that I can picture myself in!

Albi: I am definitely a little concerned about a million other dresses catching my eye between now and May... but after all those dress-shop visits, I'm pretty sure I covered ALL available options so I'm trusting my instincts that this is "the" dress!!

Fata: I found some great lavender shoes on www.bluefly.com, but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately, since they were WAY too much money

) not in my size. I love the idea of something a little different peeking out from under that swirly skirt though! Pic attached:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE those shoes. Wouldn''t wear them at my wedding though. Or any open back shoes. Saw a bride tumble once because her skirt got caught between her heel and her shoe bottom as she was taking a step. YIKES!

Ugh... I never thought about that!!! I always wear open back shoes because I''m horribly prone to blisters and prefer nothing near my heel, but that''s a good enough reason to suffer a blister or two!!

Those shoes are gorgeous!

But I have to agree about the open back. When I am dancing, I want to be super secure in those puppies.

Ephermy1 -- GORGEOUS DRESS (sorry, I''m a little late to the party) -- it''s like it was made for you.

I had post-traumatic-shopping-disorder, too. I loved my dress, my mom and MOH wept, it felt like "the one" as soon as I tried it on -- it was the first dress I tried on, though, and I forced myself to try on about 15 more...but went back to it.

The saleslady WARNED me about PTSD! Then she told me to not second-guess myself until the first fitting...if it wasn''t quite what I thought it would be, there was still time to change my mind.

She was right -- I freaked, asked my mom and MOH about a million times if they liked it, and then at my first fitting I fell in love with it again.

Brides can be wacky shoppers.

But, back to you -- I love love love your dress! Congratulations!

(and I love the shoes, but I hear what everyone''s saying about taking a tumble. I feel with my particular brand of clumsiness, I should wear skiboots!)

i LOVE those shoes!! you could always add little back straps onto them... and have them dyed to match. but it might be a sacrilege to modify such stunning shoes. decisions decisions!!

It is beautiful and you look great in it. I love the back too. I have never been a big fan of strapless dresses but that one is really gorgeous.

Well, I have to agree... I absolutely love the dress! I just purchased the same one in ivory yesterday... I think from the same store, judging by your pictures. I found the dress a month ago and wasn''t really looking to spend that much, but after five or six more shopping trips, nothing could compare. I wanted something classic, but not too plain without beading or embriodery (it''s just not me). Now today, I was also starting to panic.... should I have gotten white or ivory... did I make the right decision... should I have looked more... etc. I just did a search online for it and your post came up. I am also getting married in May 2007, so the salesgirls really did a double take... but assured me the dress would be in on time. I just might need to squish my 3 fittings together. Anyway, congratulations! Like you, I was interested in the buttons and a low back, but I wan''t courageous enough to change it. If you have any pictures PLEASE PLEASE post them! I think I am adding extra kremlin to mine so that I don''t have to wear a slip. That''s about it.

Congratulations! By the way, I think I found perfect bridesmaid dresses for the dress, so if you haven''t found yours yet, look at Jim Hjelm #JH5677.

Hi Maybride... that is so much fun that we are dress-twins!! I agree that it is the perfect dress for somebody wanting something classic but interesting... and I was NOT a poofy, elaborate, beaded person either. I tried some of those on, and they were nice... but just not for me. It will be interesting to see how the buttons turn out... if they are awful, I figure I can always have them removed and just stick with the one bow. I went with white just because I had tried on so many dresses in both white and ivory, and for whatever reason, white just consistently looked better with my skin tone. I ordered mine from Priscilla of Boston in Wynnewood, PA... aren't the consultants great there?? I went to so many other places but they were definitely my favorite people to work with. The dress is set to come in sometime in November or December so I will have lots more pix for you then... but in the meantime I only have one other shot, from the side, that I hadn't posted yet in this thread:

And for bridesmaids dresses, I love the ones you found... very cute!! They really do work well with the dress... which is hard to do! We actually decided to go knee-length and black to make them rewearable for all the bridesmaids... and I really wanted a halter neckline to add some detail that would make it a little bit different from mine. We found the perfect ones at White House/Black Market:

Yes, I loved the girls at POB in Wynnewood. I fell in love with the dress and really liked the other Melissa Sweet dresses at the shop in Delaware (where I live) but wanted to go to Priscillas to see the entire line before I made my decision. I''m sure the dres will look great with the buttons and the bottom bow. My salesgirl suggested it to me too (or at least removing the top bow) but I stuck with it the way it is for now. The dress is supposed to come in in April and my wedding is May 11, but I''m sure it will be OK.

Another funny thing... I am debating between two bridesmaid dresses... the one below that you saw already, and this other one from White & Black that comes with 3 sashes (Black, ivory & polkadot). I was going to have the 3 bridesmaids wear the black sash and the MOH wear the ivory one.

Sounds like we both have great tastes!

Any luck with shoes?

This one with Black sashes on the BM''s and ivory on the MOH

i wore open back shoes on my wedding day, and it wasn''t a problem for me at all walking in the dress. i had an A line and it worked out fine - didn''t get blisters either!!!
