Being never satisfied, I am looking to have my diamond removed from its current setting and placed into something with less width on the sides to highlight the diamond better. I'm leaning towards a setting with 3 (6 to 7 point) round diamonds on each side bar set to match my .50 seven stone bar set diamond band.

Now here's where I need help. Looking to keep it as simple as possible for my jeweler, I want to find a pear shaped colored stone with approximate measurements of 6x9mm to be set back in the middle of my engagement mounting to wear as a right hand ring.

I've found a few candidates at AJS gems:

http://www.ajsgems.com/GTS/GTS-00185.htm

Now for the questions, has anyone dealt with this company? The gemstones look prettier and clearer than others I've seen on other sites and the prices seem pretty good. Are they reputable and are the photos an accurate representation of what I'll really get? Any opinions on which one to get? I'm leaning towards the tsavorite garnet as I already have a blue sapphire and diamond ring (my birthstone) and the pink sapphire is gorgeous but I've seen so many fake pink CZ's lately that I'm starting to get weary of them. My ultimate quest is for a crimson red ruby, clear and clean under $600. Impossible I know as I've been searching for weeks.

Any opinions on what I should do?

Hi, Pearcrazy!

I bought a pair of pink sapphires from ajsgems, and was delighted. I think they look BETTER than their pictures! Good service, too.

If you really like red best, have you considered spinel or rubellite tourmaline?

I think a spessertite (mandarin) or tsavorite would look especially nice with your beautiful YG mounting...

Hi Widget, I have condsidered all of those candidates. They have nothing on the AJS site that would fit the dimensions I need. I''m still sifting though the other sites to see if I see anything that I like.

Of the AJS listsings the orange garnet looks the nicest to me, and then, the pink sapphire may have a large window because it is quite shallow (this cannot not show in the photo because the stone is placed tilted).

If you want red or pink, then perhaps one of these will do?

Very pretty Valeria, where did you find them? I think the pink stones are pretty much out of the running, I'm really thinking that a deep crimson red is the color I want to go with in a red stone so the first one is the closest to what I want. What do you think of the tsavorite? Also, I was looking at a Chatham ruby and the prices ranges from $275 to $475 dollars in the 6x9mm size. Thoughts on the Chatham? I'd really like to go natural in a ruby but the cost is too expensive and I don't want any cloudiness.

I love the color of the half moon and trillion sidestones in the Leon Mege rings mentioned in this thread:

I love your ring. I agree with Widget I think that tsavorite would look fantastic in it there''s lots of dealers that stock it. Maybe your jeweller could source a srone for you. But whatever you choose can''t wait to see the finished product.

Thanks, I think that I''m going to go with the tsavorite too. I like the green but emeralds are too costly in the quality that I want. I think the tsavorite that I linked is a great price. I hope it''s around after Christmas!!
