Opinions on old mine please for engagement ring… new to diamonds!

A good rule of thumb, cut is king. Both of the choices so far are not well cut, both being what looks like trial run 'new old style cutting' with overly uneven lower facets/pavilions. Cut will be more important than color or clarity in most cases. I would ask Jon about it, as most SI1's are eye clean at eight to ten inches. Though with the resources left you should be able to see many better examples that might fit what you're looking for.
* Also, if you love the shimmer look, I would suggest also looking at rose cuts, double rose in particular. They are also fabulous and can be found in whatever shape desired.

You're going to find better bargains in a finished ring.
Clusters/ bands are great bang for the buck!

I have been looking at rose cuts too, but I think I’m being drawn to the sparkle! Wouldn’t rule it out tho for sure… thanks so much again for these examples. Lots to consider, I enquired and the moval is eye clean so it’s currently a serious contender! It has some smaller stones either side of the ring setting it is in and I’m wondering if it would be nice to set these into a wedding band to match =)2

Just a quick note to say that I love the pictures of different diamonds and rings shown in this thread. I know it is work, but you are in a fun position @kat1elb to choose something lovely. Please post photos once you find your diamond!

So much fun! I will - I’ll post the stone and then the finished rings

Hi all, would love some opinions on another couple of stones please. I think I’ve decided on a moval / marquis shape now so just looking at different options and have found these two:

1.01ct 9.4 x 5.4 x 3.6mm. H, SI - I eye clean. GEMVAL certificate of authenticity -

Looks as though there is less of a bow tie in the first one and it is slightly deeper however is not as well certified. Thanks :)

Both of these appear to be in the I clarity range. While they may have minor black flecks that aren’t visible and thus deemed “eye clean” by the vendor, they likely have clouds, feathers, etc that will negatively impact light performance. Also, I clarity stones are hard to resell / trade-in. For these reasons I would pass on both.

+1. Out of curiosity, are these in the same price range as the stones you saw before? I believe I1 clarity should definitely be less.
