Very nice color on that one. looks as though it may have a window though.

just to make it easier for potential color stone responders!

for the record, i like pink and/or red gold.

opinion: its a lot of pink but if she''s into a lot of pink, i think the combo works fine. what does your son say?

concern: the claim is that the ring is a size 6 and can be sized up or down several sizes: i''m not sure this is true...any experts out there able to confirm this? however, if she''s a 6 or close to it, into pink in a big way, AND your son thinks its going to work, then i think you''ve found a winning combo.

one question: is she going to be ok with you doing all this or does she think your son is taking care of it? i only ask because i think you''re really trying hard to meet her needs but i''ve read stories here at pricescope about such things being misunderstood and there being hurt feelings all way around.

There is some BS in the ring ad:

"THIS RING IS EASILY SIZEABLE UP OR DONE A FEW SIZES. IT IS CURRENTLY A SIZE 6. THE WHOLESALE PRICE ON THIS RING IS $2485."

1) This ring would not be easily sizable +/- 2 sizes. Can you imagine sizing this down to a size 4? I think someone on ebay wrote +/- 2 sizes for a ring thing, and everyone else copied him -- assuming it would be true.

2) If the wholesale price was $2485, why is it for sale on ebay for $1549. Hahaha. She isn''t selling it at a loss, so therefore she''s over $1,000 exaggerated on her wholesale price.

If you did need a different size -- I definitely wouldn''t get this one.

Thanks for the responses.

CMW, don't all emerald cuts have some kind of window-like appearance? I agree about the color; the key to this stone will be whether the color is accurately represented.

MZ, she says she wants pink, and repeated it several times over dinner Sunday night. My bigger concern now is that it may not be delicate enough for her tastes. As for my involvement, I think she's counting on me to make sure she gets what she wants - she is well aware of my hobby.

MZ and Adam, she is around a size 6, so sizing should not be a concern. The seller has a good rep with some other regulars on Pricescope, but I hear you on the "wholesale" puffery. It's an all too commonly misused term. Here, I think she gets close outs from her dealers.

It looks lovely, GK. The hard part is judging color on the computer screen. If the vendor has a decent return policy then it could be a good choice. I adore anything pink though. Did she give you any more specifics? Does she want the main stone to be pink or just pink in the setting? Does she like dark pink, light pink? If she is a traditional girl, wearing a wedding band with this might be overwhelming. Of course she could move it to her right hand and wear her wedding ring on the left. Does your son have any strong opinions? Decisions, decisions . . .

It appears to have a window. It''s definitely hard to tell the color -- the pictures are highly editted. But the color looks great on my screen. The stone does appear to be slightly flat (thin), which would be an indicator of a window. Also, some people don''t really mind a window at all. So this is up to your own personal preference too.

Not all emerald cuts have windows, only the ones that have facets cut below the critical angle for the material. The reason you see many with windows is that to have the last tier of facets not below the critical angle you need a deeper stone. Most native cut stones have windows since the cutters are instructed to cut for max face up size, and the cuts almost always end up too shallow, and thus the window. An emerald cut really doesn''t have a lot of punch if cut in the traditional step cuts.

Is the setting missing a diamond -- or is that the shadow from the prong?

Hello GemKlctr,

You are correct. She gets close outs from her dealers. I bought one of her settings a couple of years ago and no jeweler I know beleived I paid $1,200 for it. It was a prototype made by a manufacturer that decided it would cost too much to put into full scale production and stopped.

Hi MZ,

How is the spess ring coming along? Did you get it back yet? I just picked up a 3+ Mehenge Neon Red/Ping spinel that (to me) looks like a pink Paraiba Tourmaline. It''s the most beautiful pink spinel I''ve ever seen. To bad it isn''t completely eye clean but very close.

Maurice

I really like this one... reminds me of pionk diamond I saw in Vegas. Didn''t look at the cut at all... doing this hurried.... but the color is so feminine and young.. but timeless and elegant too.

DL, thanks for the technical assist here and in RockyTalky. You''re asking all the right questions, but I''m not sure she''s got answers for them yet. I''m thinking to be safe I may recommend that my son go more delicate as in Dimend Scaasi. Then the question becomes, do I get this anyway for my own collection.

Maurice, I''m waiting for a semi-mount from Judi right now. She is delightful to deal with. You should post your spinel.

Adam, I think it''s just the shadow from the prong at the tip of the trilliant.

Gene, thanks for the cut info. I always appreciate it when you pros are willing to share your knowledge.

Gypsy, nice emerald cut, but I''m getting some info that she may prefer a round/oval, so I''m going to suggest my son call Issac at DS, as you recommended in my RockyTalky thread. Thanks much.

In my opinion I would go for a softer pink. The pink you have chosen is very nice, but I would rather see it in a more modern setting. The antique rose gold setting is beautiful and you want to compliment it.
Just my 2 cents....
