Opinions on these stones?

I'm an early novice and am considering buying these 2 stones. There seems to be a window on the pink and dark areas on the gray. I think I may buy them so I can see what the problems with the stones are IRL. Could you guys help point out the things that I'm obviously missing? And if I should waste my time and money? I'd like to buy several cheap stones to start with so I can see issues and find what I like/don't like, then move to bigger / greater stones. Anyone have any other learner stones recommendations ? Thanks a lot!!

I'm new to colored stones too and am still buying my learner stones. I bought a couple of amethysts, a spinel, and an ametrine from a group on Facebook called Fine Faceted gems & Cabs Auctions. Most of their stuff is inexpensive and not all that "Fine," but they make great learner stones.

Also FrekeChild started a thread about learner stones. You've probably already seen it. I'm too embarrassed to post any of mine.

The dark purple ones are very very grey and dark. Do you like grey stones with a dark tone? The pink one, although windowed is brighter.

The pink one is definitely the nicest IMO. I'm not crazy about the color of the other two but again, that could just be a personal choice. However TL is correct - the two purple spinels are dark and grey.

Here is a link to an inexpensive purple spinel on DB that I think is a much prettier gem overall - brighter, less grey, and better cut - however it is also smaller.

ETA - not sure why the link is doing that? You could try just copying and pasting or doing direct to DB. Here's a pic, though.

Thanks everyone. I'm not sure what I like yet. I'd like to get several of different colors, saturations, cuts to see what I like, but I don't want to spend a ton in the meantime. These stones I probably will set for my daughters in silver when they get a little older. ( they're 3 and 5 now)
. I do kind of like gray. I know i love yellow. Light lemon yellow and am in search of the perfect yellow sapphire. I have increased. My original budget as I'm quickly realizing for what I'd like, the dollar sign is higher lol. I plan on buying in fall.
