Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply. That's a very interesting diamond, I wonder how much it would cost to get it sent to the UK though (extra customs tax perhaps?). So I assume that because of the clarity it is most likely eye clean. Also, the amount of inclusions is a bit concerning despite the clarity grade.

I don't know a lot about that website, I assume because you linked it they have a good rep?

Yes, Wink (who runs hpdiamonds) is very well regarded and respected here. He's a great guy and great person to work with, and knows what to look for in a nice diamond. I'd contact him as soon as you can and figure out the import tax situation.

Thanks a lot for the help, much appreciated :). Wink has posted on one of my threads before so that's cool I'll get in touch with him and see if he can help some more ^^.

UK Customs rules a few years back were -

Import a loose diamond and you only pay VAT

Import diamond(s) set in jewelry and you would pay VAT plus 2.5% duty.

I'm sure if you look for UK Revenue and Customs website you will be able to confirm current position.

Thanks for the reply, I think that paying the UK VAT makes it a no go unfortunately. If it is just the UK tax that would be fine but there's the USA duty too which seems to make it very expensive :/.

I don't think you have to suffer from double tax - there is no US tax to pay because the item is for export. I don't think there is any US export duty to pay either.

Check with a vendor

All you should pay to USA is the vendor cost plus any shipping/insurance charge as per vendor policies.

Good to know thanks again :). I've just found this on the net: 'The relationship between the Crown angle and the Pavilion angle (see above) has the greatest effect on the look of the diamond. A slightly steep Pavilion angle can be complemented by a shallower Crown angle, and vice versa'. So what qualifies as a slightly steep pavilion angle? For the convenience of buying from a UK seller and being able to see the diamond in person I am still interested in the first diamond mentioned in this thread, but a little concerned it isn't an AGS 0 candidate. Any more thoughts on the first diamond?

I'm a newbie here so wouldn't have anything to add on the diamond itself or it's alternatives.

A couple of points though -

1) how do you know it's not an AGS(0) candidate?? In any case remember you're getting to see the stone in person (and it's GIA xxx)

2) Is the gbp1800 vat inclusive?? If yes seems as if you're getting a good deal. If not then you might at least want to consider alternative suggestions ( a search on pricescope returned 15 D VS1 in house diamonds between 0.5 ct and 0.63ct priced between 2300 usd and 3400 usd.

Hi thanks for the reply. When you go on the HCA tool and run the numbers, it says above the graph that AGS 0 candidates are within the
white line, the X for this diamond is outside of that. Btw, the polish on this diamond is very good not excellent but still shouldn't really change anything. The price does include VAT.

from what i can see... the X is within the white line... or am i looking at the wrong thing?!

You're looking at the GIA dotted line I think, so that means it is within the parameters that give GIA excellent cut. There's another white line that's more narrow (AGS excellent cut is harder to achieve) and it is outside of that.

What I find really confusing is the HCA score the fire as a dark green excellent (being the best I think) yet as was posted earlier in the thread, a shallow crown angle should = reduced fire?

you are correct... i must have entered a wrong number somewhere as it was in before lol.. nevermind.
