I noticed this auction and I''m wondering if anyone knows if the pink diamond is likely to be the diamond originally set in the band by Tiffany? The light leakage around the center seems typical of a Tiffany cut diamond. link

Are you thinking somebody took a Tiffany ring and irradiated the diamond to make it pink or something like that?

Because it seems incredibly unlikely that Tiffany''s would set a natural pink diamond in the ordianry everyday solitaire setting they use for their run-of-the-mill diamonds. But does Tiffany sell irradiated diamonds? I sort of doubt it. So if the setting is authentic, I would guess that either the stone was replaced or it was irradiated to make it pink.

Whatever is going on, it looks super fishy.

Did you read the auction? They don't claim that the stone is an untreated pink nor do they even claim that the stone is original to the setting. No way is that an unheated pink OR an original Tiffany stone. Could be a Tiff setting, but that's it IMO.

There are also some weird deep marks on the top of the ring in the pictures, not in great condition.

There''s another thread about this on PS somewhere but I can''t find it. It was mentioned that there was something "odd" about the Tiffany stamp inside the ring as well. I haven''t seen enough to comment but I''m sure other more experienced Tiffany''ers can help!

In all honesty I wouldn''t touch that auction with a bargepole. There looks too many things "wrong".

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

I wasn''t thinking of bidding on the ring; I was just curious what everyone else thought. Now that I look at the pictures more closely, I see that the copyright symbol is missing from the Tiffany & Co. engraving. I had been thinking that the diamond was not original but now I''m thinking that even the band may be a fake.

Oooh! I just saw this one while i was searching for antique rings. I thought... now who in their right mind would do that to a tiffany ring? This seller looks very shady. I''ve been looking at his other listings too... Yikes.

no one would sell a 1ct natural vivid pink with no reserve- you could get WAY more $ for the stone alone. Saying it is an authentic Tiffany (and saying it comes with the orig ring box) implies it is a natural vivid pink (although it doesn't look vivid on my screen). They also claim it is a transitional cut, it clearly is a modern rb.
